(Todd Van Emst/Auburn Media Relations) AUBURN, Alabama -- Gus Malzahn's brightest pupil stopped by Auburn's Wednesday practice to take a look at his old offensive coordinator in action.Cam Newton was a little surprised by his first glimpse of Malzahn the head coach on the practice field.Malzahn was all over the field, checking in on the quarterbacks and receivers one minute, the offensive line the next, heading over to take a look at the defensive side of the ball, the big-picture approach Malzahn has taken all spring."It's always going to be tough for any coach whose heart has been around the offense for so long to have to spread things around," Newton said in a story on the Auburn Athletics Facebook page. "I use the analogy of a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. There's so much peanut butter on just one side, now you've got to spread out to everybody else."Newton, the starting quarterback of the Carolina Panthers and the 2010 Heisman Trophy winner under Malzahn's tutelage, is back on the Plains taking classes at Auburn this semester to finish his degree, and he's been everywhere from Auburn basketball games to filming an Under Armour commercial at Jordan-Hare Stadium. And he liked what he saw out of Malzahn's practices, particularly the music piped over the field during certain portions of practice to simulate the noise level on game days in SEC stadiums."If anything, I wish they were doing things when I was here. The music, I love the music. Third-down situations, it provides an excellent simulation of the game," Newton said. "It's going to be very, very intriguing to see this whole process come to fruition."
