Heard this morning that Troy is supposed to make an announcement sometime before lunch on a new home and home series. The talk show host said it would be big news and cause some real excitement in the State. They already play UAB and I believe South is on the schedule as well. Any possibility we finally agreed to play them? Don't know if we'd ever do that on a home and home basis, but I think it's long past time that we play them. I've never really understood why we don't/won't. I've heard their former AD say we've had an open invitation on the table for some time.

I would love to see it. Makes for a good business decision for both schools and good for the state, imo. Good, unless we lose.

And, anyone who thinks that Troy is a push over is kidding themselves. I don't think most AU fans think that. There have been seasons in the last 15 yrs that they very easily could've beaten either AU or UA.

Would doubt this is happening.

They are probably adding Jacksonville State back on the schedule since that is the traditional rival for Troy from back in the D2 days.

This would make sense because that used to be a pretty big deal for both schools.

If we were in the position that Bama is in right now, I'd say throw 'em a bone.

But we're not. We'd very likely lose to them. And that would be a disaster.

Troy turns the ball over quite a bit. Not that last year's Auburn team could have done anything with that but at least there'd be opportunities.

Like LSU lost to UAB. Like Meeechigan lost to Appy St. It happens. It would hurt worse being in state, yes. But UGA ain't skeered of in state schools. UF has thrown some bones too. It would be good for the state.

Troy takes on all comers like Vandy Vol. Have for years and occasionally, they whip that ass. Last year, they had no business losing to MSU (Who beat us like a red-headed stepchild). Lost 30-24. Dropped one to UT on a miraculous catch and run, 55-48.

If we should drop a game to Troy, it means we're not even close to where we should be as a program. We'd deserve the same point and laugh as Arky did last year. It's not like suddenly, all the top recruits are going to start heading to Troy and we're left with kids who "camp well". I'd just much rather head to the Planes to watch an OOC game the State is buzzing about and the stadium is packed as opposed to playing New Eastern Slippery Rock Tech University.

Because, the Finebaums, and even the moderately less inflammatory in-state media would declare that Troy is the "New #2" program in the state. The campaign to flip-flop the relative statuses of Auburn and Troy in the football world would begin. Slippery slope being they end up joining the Big East or some shit like that, and ESPN dubs them the only other program in the state worthy of being referred to as Bama's rival.

It's not as if any of those players in the above scenario would be in any way reluctant to campaign for our demise/national irrelevance.
