Five statements of WISDOM
1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity, by legislating the wealth out of prosperity.
2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.
3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.
4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.
5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friends, is the beginning of the end of any nation.

There's a difference between getting screwed and getting raped. Screw means someone took the time to warm it up and maybe use some lube. Ass rape means they just ram it in. We are being ass raped out of and with our own money. The spending cuts need to happened across the board, including defense. Most defense. Leave entitlements alone because most won't see SS anyway. How did SS become and entitlement? I swear, I put money into that system that they continuously spend. How about they just give me all of the contributions made in my name/SSN and I'll short the market with them?

In order to have to pay higher taxes one must be employed. Plus, it's only for a couple of months right?

I do agree with you actually.  With a lot of it.

But we had to avoid the "fiscal cliff."  The last thing we need right now is the government slowing the economy.  So I'm glad they resolved to delay the destruction of the country.

Even though it's a ficticious title, and they could have just delayed the "cliff" another 30 days or whatever.

The politics is the worst part of this.  There is no deal.  There is no desire to do what's best for the country.  It was a big game of "I'm going to make the other side look bad with this."

To a degree I am.

The only way that this thing gets better ( I would say fixed but I think it's too far gone to get completely fixed) is if everyone realizes that there is a big shit sandwich on our plate and we will ALL have to take a bite.

The last thing we need right now is the government slowing the economy.

The fact that the government is a large enough business to affect the economy without any checks and balances is the larger problem.  REAL businesses that affect the economy have to make money or they go away.  Government should be no different.

Agreed.

But what would this "fiscal cliff" have done to curtail that?

I don't think anything.  I think it would have made it worse.  They would have landed a deal anyway in a month.  The problem would have been solidifying voter bases.  We go over the cliff?  The Democrats had the upper hand.  The senate and executive branch had come to an agreement to "save the country!"  It was all on the house.

What would have happened if the house turned it down and everyone's taxes gone up?

What would have happened if the house turned it down and the newspapers and TV stations had headlines that read "Over the Fiscal Cliff We Go as Republican-led House Fails to Pass Deal"?

I'm sorry but I just don't see where anything good long term will come of this.  All it is doing is prolonging the inevitable.  The democrats and republicans are both fucktards.

So you're pissed that you don't get to pay significantly higher taxes?

I'm pissed that they didn't do anything to solve the real issue, which is spending.  The $15B spending cut over 10 years is equivalent to a 2-pack a day smoker pledging to give up 5 cigarettes per year.  We are spending our way into oblivion.

Americans voted for European entitlements but don't want to pay European taxes (which don't cover their entitlements either, but are much closer than we are).

The defense budget alone spends all of the money collected in revenue through Income Taxes. If they hadn't touched our SS trust fund money, then there would be adequate funding for US and not the illegals. Who the fuck misinterpreted the Emily Lazarus' poem anyway? That poem was written to the Russian Turks and not every swinging dick in the world. Land of opportunity, yea right. Maybe for those who are taught to game the system at our expense.

I still look for the government to default on THEIR DEBT. Must be nice to be able to give yourself a raise at the expense of the sheeple.

Thats fine and dandy but most Americans work FOR the ones who are about to get a tax increase.

I also don't like the fact that for every dollar in spending cuts we are raising taxes 41 dollars. Sorry but a 41 to 1 ratio is NOT compromise. Boehner even conceded to give them 4 to 1 ratio and both sides said no. Fuck them.

I know that. However, the TSA could use a cut in funding since they are making money off of unruly passengers.

Everybody is going to pay more in taxes.  You, me, everybody on this forum.  I will pay around $600 a year more.  I'm not really pissed about that.  What I AM pissed about is the spending.  Everybody's taxes just got raised, and it still isn't going to fix anything as far as the deficit goes.

We has a spending problem not a revenue problem. And we just addressed the one that is not the problem. And practically ignored the other. Nothing solved. THAT is the issue.
