But what kind of situation did they step into? Like was said before, if it was a situation where you had a somewhat stable program, then fine, take that chance. That is what we did with Chizik. But here we not only have a coaching cluster, but a revolt by the players too. A big gamble may just work out. Who knows.

You just summed up nicely why we are a different situation than those. Fla with boom is the closest really.

Big schools. Besides fla state and fla (who were both well prepped as HCIWs) We are a big school in a very unique situation right now. It's a lot easier to cut your teeth as a hc at tcu or Oregon or Boise than an sec pressure cooker. The comparisons just aren't valid.

#21 Louisville - Playing in a BCS Bowl
#19 Boise State - 10-4
TCU had a down year, and problems with drugs
Penn State - 8-4 (decimated Program)

What do all the schools have in common...all had infinitely better years then our supposed big school.

Again I'm not rooting for Smart. But none of us know how any coach would do at our program.  All of the names mentioned are a gamble.  Some just have better odds then others.

I'm warming up to him.

I think many fear he'll be another Chizik because we don't know who he is.  However, I seriously doubt a coach that has been trained by Nick Saban is going to take his players to the waterpark on his first day on the job.

Hey. Have you ever been to the water park? My kids love that place. And the owners there do not like you disparaging that loving act.

Five statements of WISDOM
1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity, by legislating the wealth out of prosperity.
2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.
3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.
4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.
5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friends, is the beginning of the end of any nation.

Yes I know what they are ranked right now. But those are all mid level schools (besides psu) in shitastic conferences with much less pressure, expectations and competition when those coaches took over. Besides, Like cct said, it's more about the situation our team is in. We have a team in quit mode infighting and on the verge of total collapse. The question is: can we afford to take a gamble on a guy who has never led a team, and charge him with fixing it? My guy feeling just says no. Nothing personal against KS.

Something else about Smart - Do you think he's the type of guy to fall in love with Auburn and be an Auburn guy for his career?

Let's say we hire him, and he is successful.  Very successful and rather quickly.  He's 36 years old.

Would we have to worry about him jumping ship?

"Hey my friends are the ones that wanted to eat at that shitty hole in the wall that only served bread and wine.  What kind of brick and mud business model is that.  Stick to the cart if that's all you're going to serve.  Then that dude came in with like 12 other people, and some of them weren't even wearing shoes, and the restaurant sat them right across from us. It was gross, and they were all stinky and dirty.  Then dude starts talking about eating his body and drinking his blood...I almost lost it.  That's the last supper I'll ever have there, and I hope he dies a horrible death."

Yes.

Georgia is his dream job.

Auburn is Petrino's dream job.

Kirby will either be an epic fail (Where I'd lay all my money) or a success. Either way, we're right back where we started in 3-4 years. At least with the latter, hopefully someone will be able to pick up the pieces a little easier. I'm certainly hoping for that.

I just do not think Smart is the right move at this point in our history. If this was coming off of Tuberville's last season, maybe.

Lets say Petrino does get the HC position. Who does he bring in as the DC? Tracy Rocker?

Now, lets say it is Kirby Smart. Who would he hire as the OC?

I'll go on record once.  I really, really, really hope it isn't Smart.  The guy has a fantastic defense.  Yeah, it's Saban, but it's been pointed out, Smart knows the defense better than anyone.  And, he recruits the fuck out of Georgia, where we have pulled a lot of talent.

I don't want to play against him in the SEC, and I don't want to recruit against him.  AND, I like him so much, it'll be hard for me to hope for Auburn's demise while he is there.

It's wishful thinking, but I hope he stays around a few more years, until Saban leaves, then takes over at Bama.

Chad,

No disrespect intended, but please stop.

Do you really believe that AU is Petrino's "dream Job"?  If he had not been fired from Arkansas, he would only be looking at us if we were going to give him a trunk full of money.  If he does get the job, he will be here until someone else decides to give him a trunk full of money.
