midstream of tenure and/or contract

$$$ may not be the issue but damn sure believe reputation is
Continuing down this road with Chizik remaining as head coach will do exponentially more damage than any other option.

As fans, we can sit and analyze, criticize and just make our best semi-educated guesses as to what's going on and the reasons we've fallen off the cliff.  But, when former players like Heath Evans and Rob Pate and I believe someone on this board has talked to another former player, if memory serves....are all saying the same things...that there's no discipline, no toughness, that they're neither physically or mentally strong...then you really know without a doubt that change has to be made.

When former players are saying practices are a joke....when they're saying they saw this coming just by being around the players and seeing what the program had become, it's just not something that can be fixed with the current regime IMO.  As far as the recruits possibly leaving, whatevah.  I'd hate it but we have bigger problems that have to be addressed right now than worrying about the rating of our recruiting class.  Yes, we definitely need to target some areas with this class, most notably QB and LB.  But, as has been said many times, it doesn't matter if we get all 5 star recruits.  They won't do a damn thing with them.  There's talent on this team.  A lot of it.  We just need someone else driving the bus.

Question: Are you all ready to accept a couple of years of reset which will more than likely be marked with many losses as a result of changing horses in midstream like this?

I'm playing devil's advocate here, I know, but it was worth asking.

I'm not sure we are in a good position reputation and $$$$ wise to get into a bidding war with Arkansas and Tennessee. Then again, is that enough reason to hold on another year or two?

Call me conflicted.
Answering you based on if you believed this.
What makes you think that he would be able to turn it around.  Because this is how I see it playing out if we do keep him.  I see staff firings, if that happens then we are in for another whole change.  Which means another struggle through next year.  Plus look at the schedule, with this crew I see losses to aTm, UGA, LSU and bama as definite.  We open with Washington State and Arkansas State, neither of those gimmes.  Miss. St. &  Ole Miss are going to do nothing but get better.  Arkansas and Tennessee on the road.   4-8 or 5-7 at best?

As has been stated constant times. Roof was a defensive coordinator before Auburn, one that did well enough to be hired as a head coach. (Duke but a HC nonetheless) Loeffler was a coordinator that didn't suddenly forget how to coach.  VG looks no better then Roof.

What is the one constant in all the scenarios.  Gene "Blueprint" Chizik.

Excellent points, GF. No, I don't believe it. But, I like the discussion in this place and was hoping to get some going. These are all things I agree with. We are a mess. Now, do we have the right folks in place to fix it? I sure hope so...

I also now believe Gus leaving was just as much about this, as it was not being free to run his offense his way, maybe more so because of this.  But yeah, I had heard it from a former Tuberville player, and some from Rob Pate on his radio show and blog.  Didn't realize it was this bad like Heath described.  It's one thing to have light practices, lots of coaches do that at times for a variety of reasons, especially late in the season, but it's a whole different story when the entire program is weak mentally and physically, and undisciplined.  The reason Gene can't fix it is that the players won't take him, or the staff seriously when they've been pussyfooting around, and then suddenly want to get tough.  Can't work.

I'm not sure why we wouldn't be in a good position reputation and money wise vs Arky and UT.  We are still one of the top 10 most valuable football brands (http://www.forbes.com/pictures/emdm45el/auburn-university-tigers/) and reputation wise?  I don't know, if Alabama could still get Saban with the cluster that was their program at the time we shouldn't scare anybody off.  And really, we did win the NC two years ago.  Apparently we have the facilities to attract MVP type, National Championship talent that is able to win a NC even with lackluster coaching.  There's no reason that anybody should just write us off as a coaching destination.

Arky...maybe.

but right now UT is a better job then us.

Why... Because they don't have Nick Saban in state.  In fact don't really have an instate program they have to worry about.  East road to the SEC is still easier then the West.

I would imagine there's a lot of top flight corches out there licking their chops over this job.  They know you can win at AU and win big.  As you said, the facilities are in place and the support is definitely there.

Exactly my thought. If he could fix it he would have.  He can't because he's inept. His process sucks. It also sucked at Iowa state. None of these coaches sucked until they were under him. He is the constant. He has made good players bad and good coaches bad. I can't believe that one guy can taint the water this badly. But he has.

Earlier, I was in the Sexpedition and Tim Brando was on.  A caller from Louisiana asks who would go to the SECCG if Auburn beats Bama and 3 teams in the West wind up with 2 losses?

I was not amused by the uncontrollable laughter by Brando and his staff for the next 5 minutes.
