that those in charge, the infamous "Powers That Be", will do da' right thang?  If you think about it, there hasn't been one word out of anyone in charge about our current situation except a generic letter from Pres. Gouge saying all is well...we will evaluate after the season like we always do.  Obviously prompted by untold emails and calls from upset fans with the way the season is going.  What it boils down to is we have nothing to this point other than media and message board speculation and not one thing has leaked out from anyone that counts about what..if anything...is really going on.

In all honesty though, I guess you can't expect that to happen right now and maybe it's a good thing that the people running the show are keeping mum about the situation.  But, do we really know that Gene Chizik or Jay Jacobs are going to be canned?  Is that going to happen at all? Are the PTB working behind the scenes, interviewing possible coaching/AD hires, or are they saying one more year because after all, they did bring us a MNC?  Jacobs overall record speaks for itself.  It's painfully obvious that 2010 was the perfect storm of talent, senior leadership and good fortune...and that otherwise, Gene Chizik is 22-36 as a head coach...and facing 2 more goat rapings at the hands of our biggest rivals before this year is done.

I've posted before about the history of hires in our our athletic programs.  Fortunately for Auburn, some turned out to be pleasant surprises but not one person here at the time of the hire went, "Hell yes, we got Pat Dye".  "It's on now, been wanting Samford's coach for years".  "We got a leader, not a loser."  In my opinion, this athletic department has long since been run by people with their own power hungry self interests trumping the greater good of Auburn.  To be fair, there have been and still are some really good things that have happened, especially with regard to facilities.  A bad ass basketball arena...a much needed 100 yard indoor practice complex to name a couple.  But the greatest facilities in the world mean nothing if there's not an ass in just about every seat.  Do you really have any confidence that they will first off, clean house and second, name replacement(s) that let us know those in charge "Get it"?

I think there's a good ole boy network going on behind the scenes that is truly impenetrable.  Will Jay Jacobs be fired?  Sure.  Good possibility. 

But as for the right thing?  As in hire a staunch, business-savvy, innovative athletic director that will make tough decisions, block out outside influence, and hire game changing coaches?  No. 

Go out and get the best coaching candidate possible without degrading potential coaches' reputations by forcing them to go through an interview to see if they are a good fit for the Auburn family? 

Nope.  No faith at all. 

Just look at Tim Jackson.  He's the epitome of what is wrong with Auburn sports right now.  A mentally challenged, Auburn-nepotistic bully who is rife with insolence. 

How the hell he moved up in the ranks, I'll never know.   He's a dumbass.

He was in the ticket office for a while.  I think a long while. Left before I was there. I know people didn't like him.  He was just nosey.  Always meddling in the recruiting office in a curious way.  Wanting to talk to people, but no one knew who he was and was always confused by his presence.  I want to say one time some Tigerettes thought he was creeping on them because he would come into the office and hang around them.

But my thoughts were that he's just an idiot.  That kind of idiot that has some sense to him but doesn't know how to use it properly.  The kind that stays up late in his bed daydreaming about "what-ifs" and then the next day acting like they're reality. 

I know that somehow he went from ticket-man to henchman during the 2008 season.  Got an office near Tuberville's.  Was told to keep an eye on things.  Reported to higher ups what Tuberville was doing and allowed to have input on the team.

Then when Tuberville left, he became more of a physical presence on the sidelines as we all saw with Cam Newton. 

I just don't like him.  I think he's Jacobs' goon.  Not a clever guy that can manipulate anything.  Just something in the way of Auburn being successful.

Jay Jacobs scares me.  I don't think he's qualified to lead to Auburn unless it's to jump headfirst into a dumpster fire.  The fact that Tim Jackson has such a high role in the athletic department (starting and growing in 2004) tells me that it's crony-leadership.

I fear for Auburn this go 'round. I look for a Barfieldlike era under Jacob's leadership and several poor hires. I don't have confidence with this regime staying on. Auburn needs to hire a strong personality for the football program and I think they will feel threatened by a man they cannot manipulate.
I'm normally the guy that looks on the bright side...I just don't see one, not with this leadership.

Yes, a little faith. Those who write the biggest checks get the most say so. Just the way that it is. BUT, it is our responsibility to make sure that these guys know that they can't do it without us. They can't afford to foot the bill for the entire athletic dept., at least I don't think that they can.

 I'm not one for protesting or carrying signs and stuff, but I promise to do my share of hell raising if we don't start over in the AD dept.-- from the top down. This calls for it. Get the good ole boy connections out and start fresh.

If we continue with the current trend of the post-Dye era, we're in for the sos. AU ain't a good place for rich guys who ain't rich enough to own a pro team to hang out in the dressing room to feel the power. We need an AD strong enough to say no.
