A Message to the Auburn Family about Auburn Football

The Auburn spirit is part of everything we do - in the classroom and beyond. It includes the spirit we show when we support those who represent us on the playing field.

Later today, Auburn students and the local community will gather to cheer on the football team as they practice. I encourage others to follow their example by coming together and getting behind the young men who wear the orange and blue each fall Saturday.

In the past few weeks, many of you have contacted me, and I appreciate everyone who has taken the time to share your thoughts about the football program. I know your concerns are sincere and heartfelt, and I share many of them. As we do every year, the football program will be evaluated in an objective, thorough and professional process.

For everything there is a time, and now is the time to support. The young men and women - our students - who make up Auburn University are grateful for the dedication of their extended Auburn Family. So am I.

Says everything and says nothing...or vice versa...whatever. I was talking with someone yesterday that was saying they need to make a change right now. Nope, ain't gonna' happen. And I don't care if they bring in the reincarnation of Vince Lombardi to take over the team. You don't fire the head coach mid season unless there's something going on well outside wins and losses on the field. And not a man who did lead us to a MNC.

Now to be fair, I have hollered for the entire staff to be boiled in hot oil, hanged and quartered and then shipped off to Siberia...during just about every game this season. But all's fair while the game is on.

But I wouldn't mind if they fired Jacobs now.

Sounds like JG is getting an ear full, and his inbox crammed full too. He's been hands off on athletics, but people are going over JJ's head now. JG is smart enough to know his job is contingent on football (revenue) too, and this statement speaks loud and clear. Sounds to me like they'll wait until the end of the season, which will be in late November, to announce the decision that has already been made.

JMHO, YMMV, but I don't think a statement like this comes from the president unless it means changes are coming. You get coach speak from the AD and the HC, but not from the president.

Agreed. Just saying if they canned Chiz in mid season, I'd lose a ton of respect for the people running the show.
