2012 GOP Convention

I stayed up waaay too late watching this last night even after a long evening meeting and a long drive home.  Lots of great speeches on Day 2 but this one stands out to me...

Didn't watch much but was flipping channels and came across MSNBC and they had a panel of people...have no idea who they were.  Somebody, Rachel Maddog or some such.  They were ripping every word that came out of every speakers mouth as if the GOP Convention were a Taliban meeting where they were plotting a new string of terrorist attacks.  Hateful bastages

I got a little uneasy when Santorum took the stage. I was afraid he would get all preacher man on us. He actually held back on the moral stuff some but I did think his tone was pretty decent. He was aggressive. Christie was great, even if toned down. Ann Romney was terrific. That's one nice looking woman to be 65.

But I thought Mia Love and Artur Davis stole the show. I think it's great they are showcasing people that you normally would think would be in the Obama camp (stereotypes and all) and showing how disgusted these people are with him. Very smart play. I also like how they are hammering into the ground Obama's gaffe of You Didn't Build That. I think the ONE will regret ever saying that before its all over (if he doesn't already).

I really could do without Condi, McCain, Pawlenty or Huckabee tonight. I am interested however in seeing Rand Paul, Jindal and Paul Ryan. Also not sure why Jeb Bush is speaking tomorrow night and why in the hell they are playing tribute movies to the Bushes tonight???    I do look fwd to hearing Newt speak tomorrow though.

The media is going to run with that - between the Bush tribute movies, Jeb and Condi.

Jeb Bush is still very politically popular in Florida from what I understand so I'm not surprised that he is speaking especially in a must-win state; his speech ought to be great and Condi's speech should be good too.

I too would like to see them tone down the Bush tributes but that's to be expected.  We'll be seeing tributes to The Pharaoh at DNC conventions for millennial to come.

I just read where Jindal will NOT be there tonight because of tending to Isaac back home. Instead a Mystery Guest will appear. Popular opinion and sources indicate it to be Clint Eastwood. The 2nd most popular opinion on who it is? Tim Tebow. This could be interesting.

Thanks to the Tea Party, Ted Cruz beat out a sitting Lt Gov for the Senate nomination.  Did not care for David Dewhurst, but not sure how I feel about Cruz. Reserving judgment for now.

Cruz has made a few statements I don't agree with 100% but I think he is worlds better than who he beat. I think his head is in the right place. Real smart guy.

TH, it appears the mystery guest will be TONIGHT. I thought that person was replacing Jindal last night. And word is, it is Eastwood. At least thats what the twatterz and teh bookfaces are saying.

Huckabee's speech was suprisingly good. Especially the piece about not caring what religion Mitt Romney practices but caring more about what direction he takes the country. I thought that was a good line for him. Pawlenty - boring as usual although he did have some good zingers.

Condi - wow. Did I say I didn't want her to speak? So....she didn't really channel Bush in her speech. But instead talked about succeeding as a poor black girl growing up in Central Alabama, despite all odds. Her speech seemed heartfelt and I admire her story. Susana Martinez had very much the same story but from a Latino point of view with her parents coming from Mexico. Good stories.

Paul Ryan - knocked it out of the park IMHO. He aimed right at Obama and the economy, hard numbers and all. While also remaining personable and likable. I liked the angle with his mother still being his role model. I thought that was a good moment.
