Canoe/Kayak

Canoe/Kayak
« on: April 23, 2012, 02:56:57 PM »
Went canoeing for the first time in ten years on Saturday.  Loved it, and now I want a canoe.

What's the difference between a canoe and a two person kayak?  Any thoughts on which is better for canoeing in Alabama with the wife?

Also, is it possible to carry a canoe on top of a Nissan Altima?  Or should I begin thinking about a truck?

Get a truck wiff a hitch...

Then, purchase two of these along with a trailer for hauling them.

Is that what the kids are calling it these days?

I can't keep up with all this slang.

When you're first married, you canoe a lot more.  You might even talk her into a two-person kayak if there's alcohol involved, but be careful that can come back to bite you.  I will say that ten years is a long time to wait even by old married standards.

I've heard you can order canoes and even have them shaped to the exact specifications but you'd have to get her to agree to having a cast made of hers so your paddle will fit right.  Not sure if she'd be agreeable.

You can canoe on top of a Nissan Altima, but it's not recommended.  Back seat works better. Unless by "on top" you mean sprawled out on the hood.  If you'd dead set on canoeing on the roof of an Altima, put a blanket up there and have the windows rolled down so you can grip them if necessary.

Two Sea-doo's?  Take all the pics of hippies above and replace it with pics of guys with bleach blonde hair, barb wire tattoos around their arms, and cans of natty light in bud light coozies.

I hear you,   I bought a fishing kayak last year and I love it.  I stay off the lakes but I have fallen in love with kayak fishing in rivers.   Kayaks are much better than canoes I would recommend a sit on top kayak for fishing and a sit in kayak for rapid running.   Pesacador perception 12 is a great fishing kayak at a reasonable price and sold at academy sports both in the store and online.

I bought a kayak car top kit which is basically two foam blocks and four straps for about $30.00 and I carry my kayak on top of my Dodge Stratus (that is how I roll beotch).   I use anchor points inside my trunk and under the hood to secure the front and back of the kayak and then two straps around the middle close to the foam blocks.  I also put a 3 foot section of pool noodle in the middle of the roof between the blocks to keep the kayak off of my paint.  I am close to buying another kayak in order to take my son with me and when I do I will buy a jet ski trailor and modify it to hold two kayaks.

Oh...  You expected a serious response from us

What did you like about the canoe?  Where did you go?  What were the conditions?

Speaking of the lakes with boating traffic, you'd prefer a kayak.  They tend to be more versatile.  Canoes seem to be more difficult when dealing with wakes and other things.  Although, some may disagree.  Canoes can easily hold more stuff like coolers filled with beer/burbinz, coke products, food and camping gear.  I'm thinking that an Altima would be tough to haul anything like this, but I've seen it done.

"Hey my friends are the ones that wanted to eat at that shitty hole in the wall that only served bread and wine.  What kind of brick and mud business model is that.  Stick to the cart if that's all you're going to serve.  Then that dude came in with like 12 other people, and some of them weren't even wearing shoes, and the restaurant sat them right across from us. It was gross, and they were all stinky and dirty.  Then dude starts talking about eating his body and drinking his blood...I almost lost it.  That's the last supper I'll ever have there, and I hope he dies a horrible death."
