I am kinda surprised they never tried him on the defensive side of the ball.

Unless they did.

I think it was the MSU game, he was in at H Back, and he tried to block an MSU DE who he probably outweighed by 30lbs, and who literally picked Phillips up and threw him on his ass.  I knew that moment that he was a big fat pussy.

I watched LD get plowed onto his lard-ass and rolled over onto his back during the A-Day game last year.  That's when I knew.

Yep, and ESPN showed that play 25 times over the remainder of the game.

294 pounds of fucking disappointment. I had visions of him catching a swing pass out in the flat, turning it up field and fucking mauling Dre Kirkpatrick's mouthy ass. Hell, if Honey Badger could knock that overrated motherfucker out at 170 pounds; Ladarious would have killed him .... literally. After that play against MSU, what would have been the most likely result would have been Dre catching him, bench pressing him, and then throwing him into the 3rd row of seats WCW style.

That being said, he'll transfer to Jax State and have a record setting year.

He was never D1 material, fat and out of shape. If you'll remember, we took him as the last signee in a class a couple of years ago as a 2 star. He was not highly recruited and was viewed as a raw project. I never felt the hype with this guy as many did.

And I believe you. Many thought that. He was a last minute (we still have a slot open) NSD chance we took on a raw player. We kind of did the same thing with Wallace this year out of Central PC. Except  I think Wallace has more upside as an athlete.

I don't know who I was reading it from, but someone set my expectations that this kid was an unstoppable bulldozer that tops out at 95 MPH.

He was the Sammie Coates of a couple of years ago. The "diamond in the rough" that is reported to defy physics and the parameters of human ability.

Just sayin.

I went to the scrimmage where he got hurt his first year.  Got hurt right at the end of it.  Up until then, they gave the guy several carries.  I thought he didn't look like much as a runner but it was apparent he moved pretty damn good for a guy that size.  I was never stoked about the guy but I did think there was good potential for him as a FB on short yardage.

Hawg Bear? Not sure, but it may have been Prowler. Many knew this guy was a longshot, and many also knew he was the next Brandon Jacobs.

I am almost positive who that dude was. It's the same dude that said he ran a 4.8 as a 260lb OL....

To be fair, it wasn't just one person.

I was hearing it from beat writers, and other message boards, and I want to say more than just one person here.

Anyway, we all know he turned out to be a bit of a bust, I'm just saying, I don't recall everyone soothsaying this on signing day.

I'll give him a little credit - He did catch a swing pass in last year's A-Day game that was really impressive.  He moved extraordinarily quick for a boy his size.

But that was his one moment.

Enough speed to play RB at the HS level, and enough size that nobody wanted to tackle him.  This aint HS.

Yep, I read multiple people thinking he was being wasted, and needed to be made a bigger part of the offense.  I kept wondering: "Based on what?"

I liked the novelty of having a guy that size playing fullback.  LSU had a 280 pounder that made our guys quit.  With our lack of a true fullback last season, you would think they would have pushed him in to that role.  Apparently, there was a good reason they didn't.

Brandon Jacobs: 6-4 260, 4.56 40 at the combine.

Ladarius Phillips: 6-0 295, listed at 4.8 in the 40 on Rivals, which is most likely 'optimistic'.

No comparison.
