Day Two
« on: March 24, 2012, 04:51:51 PM »
Quote
AUBURN, Alabama -- Quarterback Clint Moseley says new offensive coordinator Scot Loeffler's playbook is "completely different" than the one Auburn ran under Gus Malzahn last season.

Gone is the Malzahn's spread. In is Loeffler's pro-set.

"It helps being a little bit older, but it's still pretty hard to adjust," Moseley said after Saturday's second practice of the spring.

Moseley, last year's starter for the final six games, finds himself in another wide-open quarterback race.

"You know when come to place like this it's never safe. We're just trying to learn the offense," he said.

Moseley, Kiehl Frazier and Zeke Pike are battling for the starting job this year, a season after Moseley took the starting job from Barrett Trotter. Moseley shrugged off another quarterback battle, saying Loeffler knows best.

"One thing I can promise you: If he says it's wide open, it's wide open. He doesn't owe me anything, he doesn't owe Kiehl anything, he doesn't owe Zeke anything."

Moseley says he's taken about 60 percent of the snaps under center in the first two practices. The Tigers ran only a handful of plays under center last year.

We'll have more on Moseley and the offense later...

**Redshirt freshman Greg Robinson says he's working with the first team at left offensive tackle.

"Physically, I'm a lot more advanced," he said. "I think the redshirting process was really helpful for me."

**Coach Gene Chizik said Saturday was "a high-energy practice."

"We picked up where we left off. I'm proud of the team after two days."

Auburn will take Sunday off, and return for its first practice in full pads Monday.

Chizik said he's taking a cautious approach to the spring.

"I'm very hesitant to make any judgments in two days," he said. "With all the new verbiage on both sides of the ball, it's really been two great days of learning."

**Defensive lineman Jeff Whitaker says he weighs in at 303 pounds after playing at 325 last season.

"I feel good. I smile when I run sprints now," he said.

Whitaker said a better diet and work in the weight room did the trick.

"Luckily, I didn't lose any strength. Actually, I gained strength."

Going to be real curious to see what develops on the OL.

Right now, this seems to be for sure: G. Robinson at LT, and Dismukes at C.

Then you have J. Sullen, and Chad Slade.  They should both be starting, but one will likely move to RT. Slade started at G, but Tackle was his position he was recruited at.  He's built like one too.  Not sure if Sullen is athletic enough to play T.

Fariyike, Mack, and Westerman should battle for the remaining open slot.  I don't see any of those moving out to Tackle.

This OL should be much improved over last year, and the addition of a true on the line TE to the mix should help too.

I count only 9 seniors on that roster.

Two are guys that you don't hear much about: Means and Richardson.

Sullen, Benton and Morgan haven't been major factors at their positions and their respective units have been stocked with young talent in the past two classes.

Basically, after this season we lose: McCalebb, Lutzenkirchen, Blake and Bates.

If one of these QBs can function in this offense, then we'll be pretty good this year, and have a good shot in 2013 at making a championship run behind very seasoned OL and DL.

We've heard from him, and Frazier, and I have to say, Frazier seems to be the more "together" of the two.   From what he's saying, I'm guessing he already is getting a vibe that he's not likely to win the race, and he's preparing himself.

Wonder if they'll let Pike speak to the media?

It was gross, and they were all stinky and dirty.  Then dude starts talking about eating his body and drinking his blood...I almost lost it.  That's the last supper I'll ever have there, and I hope he dies a horrible death."

Yes, I'm sure that has a lot to do with it, along with the fact I don't think Chizik is very fond
of letting the Fr engage with the media too much.

That's probably a good strategy overall, but fact is, he's a factor in the QB race, and I'd like to hear from him.
