I know, I know...

I DVR it and skim through just in case there is something interesting. 

And this year, there is something to watch.

Joshua Ledet.

He is unreal.

He's this guy from the pissant town of Westlake, LA.  Nothing there but chemical plants and barge terminals.  He grew up singing in his daddy's church.

And I would pay money right now to see him perform.  He is amazing.  Bluesy, gospel, Stevie Wonder, Stevie Ray, all in one. 

He blew the doors off of When A Man Loves A Woman tonight.  Every week, it is something awesome.

So do what I do.  DVR, skip everyone else, and watch him.  It's only about three minutes. You can thank me later.

Great voice, but I guess I've been spoiled by Nashville.  Vocal talent is really a dime a dozen; it's just that the people who actually make it to be popular in the mainstream media are marketable, and usually willing to sell themselves out.  Even the karaoke dive bars in Nashville have bartenders that could put most popular vocalists to shame.

Now I find myself more impressed with people who have unique voices, as opposed to your great talents that have very standard sounding tones.  Cee-Lo Green is an example of someone who is vocally talented, but ultimately gets my attention because of the uniqueness of his style as well as the overall sound of his voice.  Martin Sexton is also the bomb.com; that man does some absurd shit with his vocal chords.







With that being said, the one "typical" vocal talent that still wows me is David Ruffin.  He wasn't really unique in my mind, as he had a very standard soul/R&B Motown sound, but he does stand out to me for some reason.

When you mentioned vocal talent being a dime a dozen in Nashville, it reminded me of years ago when the company I worked for sent us to the Opryland Hotel for annual convention.  Had to go next door to Opryland and we had to hit some of the shows in the park.  That's what amazed me, the incredible amount of talented vocalists in these shows.  But it made sense.  How many off the chart performers were in that city trying to be discovered.  I imagine Opryland had their pick of the litter in auditions.

My wife and I record it and skim through it. I hate that the big guy got thrown off. I love listening to a baritone sing. Reminds me of my daddy singing in church when he was a lot younger.

I didn't like Ledet the first time I heard him, but he is getting better and better. And yes he did knock it out of the park with the old Percy Sledge song(who is from Alabama).

The little girl, Holly, has a set of pipes. And the rocker, Erica, could step right in with Heart and take over.

This season they seem to have a decent collection of talent. Only a few that I would not listen to. The rest could record the right song now and hit it big.

But I guess that could be said about a lot of people out in the world who will not get a chance.

It's too bad he turned out to be a coke head.

My dad went to see the Temptations several years back.  They're obviously hard up for money, as they performed in Pulaski, TN of all places.  And when I say "they," I mean Otis Williams and whoever he's duped into joining the group.

I get that they were the best Motown group, and one of the best musical groups ever in general, but why continue at this point?  Maybe he just really loves what he's doing, but there's only him left, and the demand for him and a few other new guys as "The Temptations" is obviously not stellar, or else they'd be performing in at least medium sized venues.  Boggles the mind...

They were at the casino next to where I was staying in Vegas about this time last year. It was only 15 bucks and I didn't go. That's how much I think of the Temps now.
