What is it that snaps in people and makes them come to the decision to take a gun to school and start shooting people?
URGENT: At least five people were wounded early Monday in a shooting at an Ohio high school, authorities tell Fox News. A suspect is in custody.
At least four of the shooting victims at Chardon High School are students. Three are in critical condition, while one victim is in stable condition, according to authorities. The condition of the fifth person is unknown.
Civil deputy Erin Knife with the Geauga County Sheriff's Office said the shooting was reported around 7:30 a.m. Monday.
The suspected lone shooter, believed to be a student, has been taken into police custody, Chardon Local Schools Superintendent Joseph Bergant II told Fox affiliate WJW-TV.
The situation is under control and an FBI SWAT team is on the scene, police said. The school remains on lockdown.
A parent waiting outside the school told the station that her daughter sent her a text message, saying the shooting took place inside the cafeteria.
Another student reported hearing a total of five shots fired, the station reported.
Neither the victims nor the shooter have been identified. The wounded students were reportedly airlifted to local hospitals.
The suspect fled the school on foot and was later apprehended after turning himself in, according to law enforcement officials.
The 1,100-student high school is about 30 miles east of Cleveland.
