Barbo/Scarbo
« on: February 24, 2012, 06:52:36 PM »
I got in the car to go home from work, had listened to the midday show on JOX at lunch.  Finefuck was on, and in the middle of the second moron caller, who said Uh, Uh, and Hey Uh, about 30 times in 2 minutes and was a self described bammer, I quickly turned it off in the middle of his rant about what an idiot I-Man is.  I switched to 97.3.  Bobby Allison interview almost made me switch back, but I held fast.  Later, I heard Scarbs talking about Cam being in Auburn, how yet another misconception about him never coming back, and not giving a shit about Auburn was dispelled.  And the best part, it wasn't followed up with mouth breathing jackasses calling in and snickering about how he was there to get a payment and meet with Uncle Miltie.   You can't get that on JOX.  Was really refreshing.

Also good about Barbo and Scarbo is that their interviews aren't Crimson Cracker Jacks.  They just interview the guest.  No hidden agenda to slander the guest (as Finebaum does Auburn guests or other schools' guests).  No good-ole-boy yuck-yucking with Alabama guests (as Finebaum does with Sheridan, Kausler, Hurt, and Gould).

It's a good show.  I wish there were a way to really advertise them to the entire B'ham area.

I had my doubts at first, but I think they're going to survive, and I think they're going to pull listeners from Finefuck.   They damn sure have an agenda to be the "anti-JOX".  If there had been an alternative from the start, JOX may not have become what they are.

There was an alternative to JOX at one time, then they bought him. Every time there was ever a competing sports radio brand in the Birmingham area, Citadel Broadcasting would buy them out.

Speaking of, what the hell happened to Classic Rock 99.5 in Birmingham? Are they off the air now?

Man that sucks. That was pretty good station to hear some very nice classic tunes. I was up that way about a month ago and noticed its now a hippity hop station. Talk about polar opposites.

I remember in 88-95ish timeframe, they seemed to have a station policy to play a Bob Segar tune every 45-60 minutes, with "Katmandu" being the most common.  I swear they played that damn song every other hour

96 rock over here in Atlanta changed format several years back - somewhere around 06-08?
