That's alot of words to simply say the kid is going to greyshirt. Funny how the AJC's article when UGA did the exact same thing with Xzavier Ward (who wasn't even injured) two weeks before signing day was painted in a totally different light.
Greyshirt = signing a LOI and agreeing to be on the team one year with no scholarship ≠ this situation.

Thanks for playing.

ANOTHER quote that just jumped out at me.

Quote
They are going to find me a job. I’m going to work. I’m going to physical therapy at least seven days per week.

At least seven days per week? Did Saban promise him that he could add more days to the week too?

Meh.  When I first read this last night it was from a Bama beat writer and it was a completely different story than what the AJC wrote.  Homers write homer articles.

BUT, I am growing weary of the commitment game.  If a kid is offered a scholarship to play football, and he accepts, that should be a binding agreement unless the kid doesn't handle his business off the field.  If he keeps his grades up, if he stays away from trouble, he should be given the scholarship that he was offered.  IMO he did his job and should be rewarded for it.

Recruiting shouldn't be handled like a draft board.  If you don't want/need a player, don't offer.  Or at least, don't offer 6 years before he can sign a letter of intent.

It should be easy to narrow down which PT office he is going to by eliminating the ones that are not open on Sundays. Of course, unless we're talking about a Chinese "Physical Therapy" Spa which might very well be open 24/7........at least.

Kwerstion.  I know a while back, someone posted an offer letter...or at least my feeble memory thinks one was posted.  Do the letters contain language allowing the school or player to back out for no apparent reason?  Apparently, it's all pretty open ended since both player and school do it on a regular basis without repurcussion.

"Hey my friends are the ones that wanted to eat at that shitty hole in the wall that only served bread and wine.  What kind of brick and mud business model is that.  Stick to the cart if that's all you're going to serve.  Then that dude came in with like 12 other people, and some of them weren't even wearing shoes, and the restaurant sat them right across from us. It was gross, and they were all stinky and dirty.  Then dude starts talking about eating his body and drinking his blood...I almost lost it.  That's the last supper I'll ever have there, and I hope he dies a horrible death."

It does happen a lot, and I wouldn't expect to tie a 17 or 18 year old down to a verbal commitment.  It's a much more important decision for them than it is the school.  Maybe if there was an early signing period it would help stop some of this.  It would take away from some of the January excitement, but it would also stop schools from offering a scholarship in May and deciding in January it might not have room.

A little clarification on the bylaw in question.

It is only in reference to a prospective athlete finding work with the university itself and only through normal means, and WITHOUT the intervention of anyone on the coaching staff. Also there is that caveot about being an award winner in any department outside of intercollegiate athletics.

Quote
An institution may employ a prospective student-athlete who is an athletics award winner in any department outside of intercollegiate athletics, provided the employment is arranged through normal institutional employment procedures (e.g., local newspaper, bulletin board listings) and without the intervention of any member of the institution’s coaching staff.

Happy ending, at least.

After everyone on the internet laughing at this kid for being dumb enough to take Saban's word on something like this, he has apparently wisened up.

According to Rivals, we hadn't even offered this kid.  Not that he'd be a huge pick up, but could add some depth at RB.

I don't see us offering.  Unless we flip Mathers or Gurley, I would be we are done at RB.

I wonder who is paying for PT?

If any of you have had PT or had a kid that needs it, you know it is expensive as hell. And even if you do have insurance, it only lasts so long.

Five statements of WISDOM
1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity, by legislating the wealth out of prosperity.
2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.
3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.
4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.
5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friends, is the beginning of the end of any nation.

Your comment doesn't make sense in relation to mine.  How do you claim that it's not bizarre yet go on to reiterate exactly what I said?

Losing a spot on a team's commitment list is not that uncommon.  What's strange is that this kid instead of doing like most other prospects and moving on to other pastures decides to stick around with Alabama.  That is bizarre.

Then I misread what you thought was bizarre about it.  I agree, but seems the kid has wised up.

I think he wised up when he saw the comments on the AJC article about how much of a dumbass he was being.

Atlanta running back and Alabama commit Justin Taylor re-affirmed his commitment to the Crimson Tide after an in-person meeting with head coach Nick Saban on Tuesday, according to a report from The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Taylor was asked by the Tide coaching staff to delay his enrollment until January of 2013, a technique known as "grayshirting", and after recently expressing disappointment with the move, Taylor's coach and legal guardian Stanley Pritchett said Taylor plans on enrolling at Alabama.

Translation:  Come to bama son, we have this beautiful $1 million dollar mansion that desperately needs someone to watch it.  Maybe Stanley can watch it for us.  Don't worry we'll get you that job at the Pig in the Poke for $40 an hour.
