He has fielded tough run defenses.  Pass defenses have been pretty bad.
We should be use to that by now.

Took less than that.   Took me that long to get on the board and type it.

This is the thing.  Maybe he works out ok.  I hope so.  We'll see.
You would say Atlanta played good defense this weekend?  Overall Atlanta has had a pretty good defense with him at the helm but Christ on a cracker I thought I was watching Neiko try to cover folks yesterday.

So, you'd base the hire on one game, instead of his body of work, which, by the numbers I'm seeing ain't bad?  IOW, who gives a greasy shit what they looked like this weekend?  Christ Sakes, no coach is qualified if all you do is cherry pick one bad performance to judge them on.

In the NFL for him:

2011: 12th Total D, 18th Scoring D
2010: 16th Total D, 5th Scoring D
2009: 21st Total D, 14th Scoring D
2008: 24th Total D, 11th Scoring D

From what I saw of his Time at UGA he looked good, and this, for the NFL, aint bad at all.  As far as I can tell, he's pretty consistent in his defense keeping folks from scoring many points.  If, as some here say, he's aggressive, then I like it that much better.  Hell, even fartbomb said it was a good hire.

Hello, can I please speak to Eddie Goldman?

Yes, Eddie...Brian Van Gorder. Fine, doing great.  Oh you heard?  Well great. Listen, Eddie, the reason for my call is I needed to know where on the line you want to play and what jersey number you want.  Mmm hmm....yes, that's right. Oh and Eddie, do you have a girlfriend?  Yes?  Does she need a scholarship of any kind?

I have zero doubt that Coach Van Gorder was the man on top of "his" list (not the list of fans)....since Van Gorder also runs the Tampa 2 & I'm sure they've become friends since Coach Chizik replaced him back in '98 after Coach Van Gorder left UCF to become the DC at Central Michigan (his home State).

I know one thing, those Defensive players had better be ready to hit during practice (no more thud hitting).

Also, it's a telling sign when it's been almost 8 years since he left UGA and the fans still remember what his defenses were like...and respond with posts like "Oh shit, that sucks for us."

UGA's defense hasn't been the same since '04 (it is getting back on track now with Coach Grantham).

I'd like to hear what David Pollack's thoughts are.

Also, I love the date that the announcement is made. War Fuckin' Eagle!!!

Quote
"He's the real deal," said Travis Williams. "That's a bigtime hire."

Williams remembers former Auburn linebacker coachoe Whitt putting on film of the Georgia defense, in particular the linebackers, as an example of how to play.

"I knew about Van Gorder since 2002 when he was at Georgia, and we watched the Boss Bailey's of the world," said Williams. "The way his players played linebacker, we tried to be better than them. He knows his ball, he's the real deal.

"I know one thing, his players will know what they are doing. He's very detailed, he yells, but in a good way. He doesn't let anything slide," said Williams. "You are going to play hard for him. I was on the practice squad my first year, and he always coaching you up. He's a great guy, great coach, he's going to get on the guys."

Georgia's boards are pretty pissed about the hire.  Some dawgies were calling him the best UGA DC ever.
