Pros/Cons - Kirk Herbstreit as a Coach

Pros/Cons - Kirk Herbstreit as a Coach
« on: November 23, 2011, 06:02:33 PM »
Pro - He's spent the last fifteen years analyzing every coaching staff and gameplan in the country.  He also has a tremendous amount of insiders and would be the ultimate face for recruiting.

Con - He's a fucking TV personality who has been the "nice guy" for fifteen years.

And yes, rumors are swirling about Herbstreit being Urban Meyer's quarterback coach.

Imo, he's been away from the game too long. Playing, being coached, etc. is completely different than commentating & analyzing.

I've heard it too.  And I agree, he's got a great job.  No recruiting, has half the year basically off.

Yes it is different...completely.  However, if he has it in his heart to coach, he could do it.  I just don't see him wanting to be a coach when he could have easily done that anytime in his past.

IMHO, I think the only reason to have him on a staff would be the "clean cut guy" factor, having a famous face to be around the program and for recruiting.

He'd be a fool to take on coaching duties as an Asst. Coach and leave his current gig.

FYI, Pat Sullivan didn't get in to coaching until almost 10 years after his playing days.  He was completely out of football for that time too.
