Phillip Marshall calls it early:

Quote
I'm about to head east and back to Auburn. First, I wanted to find some kind of historical perespective for what this Auburn team is going through. I found it pretty easily, and it relates to LSU and to Nick Saban.

In 2001, Saban won the SEC championship in his second season at LSU with mostly players he inherited. The transition year was 2002. They had a stretch worse than any this Auburn team has had, losing 31-0 to Alabama at home and 31-7 to Auburn at Jordan-Hare in a three-week span. They lost five games that season and didn't lose six only because of a miraculous hail mary as time ran out against Kentucky. In 2003, they won the national championship.

I'm not saying Auburn will win the national championship next season. I am saying that in almost every situation there is a transition year. Sometimes it's the first year, sometimes the second, sometimes the third, depending on the situation. This was always going to be Chizik's transition year, and it is what it is.

Joking about winning a NC next year aside, he is right about the parallels and this being a transistion year.

Hell, losing 17 of 22 starters makes the phrase 'transistion year' look like an understatement.

It's lack of tutoring, that's what it is.

Not too far off if you consider his "kneeling" on the ball in the MNCG.

Another perspective Auburn's three losses came at the hands of #6, #9 & the #1 teams in the Country. Everyone (with a level head) had Auburn pegged at 7-5/8-4 or worse. Did everyone think Auburn would just forfeit those lost games? I know losing sucks and I think what's making it worse is the success that Coach belittle and his band of roided up players is having...for the ones that listen to the baldhead dork it makes it even worse.

Auburn happens to have one of the youngest teams, playing one of the hardest schedules, & in the toughest division (the Western Division could split from the SEC and it'd still be on of the top Conferences) in the Country.

Btw, Auburn is still ranked in the BCS & many talking heads have stated that if Auburn wins 8 games this season that Coach Chizik should get the Coach of The Year Award....Also, Auburn is looking at landing another Top 5-10 Recruiting Class.

I think we stand a very real chance of winning 8 regular season games, with UGA being the swing game.   3 losses to current top 10 teams that only have one loss among them.  And I'm not conceding we lose to bammer.  That game has gone to the fave most years, and the "you can throw the records out the wind" shit is just false...but it's been 10 years since a major upset in the series, and it's due for one.

You can never have to much of a good thing at every position but I think this top 5-10 recruiting class needs to focus on offensive line big uglies, 2-3 big time receivers and big linebackers, big linebackers and more big linebackers.

Think about our D-line.  The rotation goes:

Whitaker 315 Sophomore
Carter 290 Sophomore
Blackson 325 Freshman
Wright 315 Freshman
Travis Junior 295 Junior
Sigler 263 Freshman

Several have been redshirted but sign a couple here and this group is loaded for a long time to come.

Running backs.  As was mentioned earlier, if we get Yeldon in the fold, we won't have enough balls to go around.  Dyer, MacProne, Mason, Blakely, Grant, Yeldon.....but, a big 220 plus beast wouldn't hurt.  Would like to get a true fullback.

QB???  Look, let's hope Moseley can get us through the season and let Frazier develop even more. By 2012, I want a 2-man race between Frazier and Pike.  I know, I know..Pike's a true freshman.  Fuck it.  I have a feeling he's gonna; be that good.

DB's.  We'll pick up a few more in this class but the group signed this year is bad ass and will only get better.  Little big head, T'Bell is back along with Chris Davis, who will be a junior.  Between Therezie, Rose, Florence, Whitehead etc. this position will be stacked very soon.  Just gotta' get Neiko out of there.

I got off on all that for no apparent reason other than to say, if we can get our O-line and QB positions worked out (Pretty big if) we'll be a player in the BCS quick.
