I think you used the wrong post of mine to respond to. Keep up. Iron Bowl of 81 is so 9 am. We're talking about the rednecks on Billy the Exterminator this hour.

Kidding...

But to your point, 81 is always the year I remember that Auburn got their shit together. I believe we went 5-6 under Dye that first year, but you could tell those guys fought in every game. Dye even told them I think, after the Tenn game, that if they kept fighting the way they were doing, they would win a LOT of ballgames the next year, and the next year and so on. And they did. You could tell things were changing.

Yeah, I don't give a shit about when we broke that streak.  The attitude that facilitated the '82 IB win began when Dye arrived in 81.

Just sayin, Token saying we cherry picked 81 for W/L records, or Iron Bowl records doesn't make sense since we were 5-6 and lost the Iron Bowl.

If we can get out of this season with a winning record and God willing, an Iron Bowl victory, next year's 30 year retrospective will be more flattering.

I didn't say it, JR did.  Then Kaos solidified what I was hinting at.  What's the point in waiting until the end of Alabama's dominance to start keeping "relevant" records?  If you're going back 30 years, why not 40?

Seems to me it would make more sense, when speaking of relevance, to go back 10 years.  Even then, who really gives a shit about what happened in 2001?  We barely give a shit about what happened 2 years ago.

My God man, don't you know 30 years is the standard when measuring relevance?

Bottom line, Bear Bryant kicked Auburn's and all of college football's collective asses for quite a while. As an "old" guy, I can tell you that I sat in Legion Field for just about every one of those games during that losing streak.  Not once did I ever go in there thinking we really had a great chance to win with the exception of the 73' game.  I hoped..but I knew it probably wouldn't happen.  They were just that damn good and everything seemed to go their way.  Exit Bear stage left and the playing field tilted back towards the center.  Enter Pat Dye and the last 30 years have been waaayyyy more good times than bad.

My doctor told me I needed to stop masturbating.  I asked him why, and he said, "because I'm trying to examine you."

More to the point...bammers don't really give a shit about anything that actually happened, only what they want to say happened.  Like claiming to be the dominant program in the state when they can't dominate Auburn.  Just say it enough, get Finebaum to write articles about it in SI, and it becomes true.

In that series, over that span, the only two that really gnaw at me are 84 and 85.   Should have won both of those with ease.  Good Auburn teams against shitty Bama teams.

Kick a FG in 1984 and we win.  Nope. Tried to show off and go for it with some trickerooskie on fourth and one.

Keep the fucker in bounds in 1985 and we win.  Nope.  He got away.

Win those two?   We answer their nine-game string with an eight-game blast.   It would have evened up a shitload of attitudes and made a difference in a ton of things today.
