My Current View of Auburn & Finebaum...

Okay, so the past few days have been filled with Finebaum blithering and bloviating about all the assumed reasons he may not be welcome in Auburn.  Is this really so hard to understand?

I said quick, because really there isn't a whole lot of mystery behind Paul Finebaum's issues at Auburn University.  Let's make a short list.

1. Harvey Updyke - This clown is given not one, but several opportunities with his glory hound attorney to come on and plead his case in the public domain. This isn't responsible on Finebaum's part. Were any Auburn experts, or guests dealing with Toomer's Corner offered time on the show in a respectable manner?  No.  Even if they were, does anyone that's familiar with F'baum's show believe there wouldn't be a back up on line 1 from Bama fans ready to make fun, minimize or treat Auburn's tradition as some sort of cultish and childish behavior?  No.


2. Hypocrisy - Finebaum goes on for hours how a few internet message board idiots wrongfully poke fun at the much maligned Shane's battle with cancer.  So, a few message board idiots say something, and Finebaum focus's on AUBURN's issue with internet nuts.  Really Paul?  As you read from THE CAPSTONE REPORT... A BLOG... that openly mocks Auburn, writes spiteful, erroneous drivel about Auburn?  You ignore places like "As The Plains Burn.com", or "Auburngate.com"?  Really?  You focus on a few idiots from The Bunker?  You do this at the same time you want people to take your SI writing and other "journalism" seriously?  How the hell is that supposed to work?  It doesn't.

3. Whores - Sorry ladies for the reference, but for days, Finebaum allowed callers with agendas against Auburn to come on and openly mock the Auburn Tigerettes as "whores" after an errant post from Sports By Brooks came out months ago.  He might have curtailed it a little at this point, but for days it was whores and snickers from some of his most vitriol and less polished brood of callers.  Finebaum did NOTHING to stop it, and instead chortled along.

4. Danny Sheridan - His story is SO full of holes that even Danny has stopped defending it for the most part. He defends it to a point, but it's usually just the same "polygraph" thing that wouldn't prove anything and a "truth will come out" some time response.  Danny himself has said that he wishes he'd never said a word. Well he did, but ringmaster Finebaum as not given that up yet, and I think just about everyone with half a brain in their head thinks it's ridiculous and should be dropped.

These are but a few examples.  This is NOT professional, even by Jerry Springer standards.  Even as low rent as the Jerry Springer Show was, he always ended the show with some sort of sane message or words of simple advice.  It's what kept HIM above the fray, even if his show was not. Finebaum can't even do that when it comes to Auburn or his show's callers.

This has NOTHING to do with what school F'baum roots for.  It has nothing to do with him once having a great relationship with one person in Tommy Tuberville long before things got a little tense between the two in the later years.  It has nothing to do with the one or two fringe Auburn callers.  It's about being smart enough to separate and project some sort of common sense on what you're doing to not just Auburn, but the perception of the state in which you live.  The people you represent, Paul, whether you realize you're a representative or not.

I once called Jim and told him I wanted something special for my girlfriend's birthday.  I sent her off to see him and she came back coated in 10 carat gold leaf, cubic zirconium, and pregnant.  She died like that chick at the beginning of Goldfinger.  He was a hell of guy.

To me it's the same thing as posting a picture and going "hey, look at my really cute kid!"  Fuckamuckous, some of those "really cute kids" look like monsters and dough shit to me.   Or worse somebody posting a picture of his super keen car of herself in a bikini and going "damn, I 'm hot!"   Maybe hot, maybe not but I'm predisposed at that point to look for the inevitable flaws -- the fat roll hanging over the string, the misshapen tits, whatever. 

Just my opinion and about as worthless as anybody else's.
