I've gone to ESPN.com and watched the replay, and watched some stuff over and over.
Though Trotter was mediocre to start, he did get better. He has a good arm, and enough speed to elude at least DTs, and get some positive yards if he's flushed. The negatives for the game can easily be attributed to a guy making his first college start after a 3 year layoff from playing competitive football. He failed to locate open receivers and/or deliver the ball on time early, but improved. 17 for 23, 261 Yds, 3 TDs, 0 Ints, 2 Sacks, 212.3 QBR. And, many of his passes came under real pressure while trailing. Those are the type numbers I'd expect from an Auburn QB vs Utah State even if we'd killed them.
Special Teams. No major fuck ups like muffed punts etc, a KO return for a TD, got an onside kick when we HAD to have it, many KOs in the endzone. Many folks don't think about special teams, but ours was the only consistently solid performing squad yesterday. They saved the game.
Travante Stallworth...he's a big man in a 5-9 package!
Tre Mason...special player! You don't find many runners that can make cuts at full speed that way, and run fearlessly. When he gets more experience with the offense, he'll be an added weapon that can be a combination of Dyer's power, and McCaleb's speed.
Emory Blake....looks like he's stepped up and accepted his role as "the guy".
We scored 35 offensive points on only 54 offensive snaps.
Dyer and McCaleb averaged 4.5 yds per carry combined on 23 total combined carries.
When Malzahn gets in the playbook and starts his "series football" play calling, the opposing defenses will be wrong more, and the running game will get better.
Notice you didn't see much of him yesterday, but Lutz was called on in the clutch. Look for him to be much more involved in SEC play.
I think we'll be ok offensively and on special teams.
