Butch Davis Fired at UNC

According to multiple sources, Butch Davis is out as UNC's head football coach.

There is no confirmation from the school at this time.

Our affiliate in Raleigh, WTVD, reports that UNC's problems began last year when the school announced it was
looking into academic misconduct and allegations that players got perks
from professional sports agents.

In all, 14 players missed at
least one game because of the probe with seven being ruled out for the
entire year. An eighth was cleared to return at midseason but decided to
redshirt.

Last month, North Carolina received a notice of
allegations from the NCAA outlining numerous "potential major
violations" in the football program, including unethical conduct by a
former assistant coach as well as failure to adequately monitor the
conduct of a former and current players.

Nope. Not this year he won't...but the job next year. Sure. It's a southern job. Nice place to live. ACC which is competitive. ACC which he could win. A school that is willing to win. Nice facilities. Not a HUGE pressure to win immediately because of basketball. A decent program.

I am more worried about him taking a job like this than say a job like Maryland. I think he wants to stay in the south to keep his recruiting ties going down here for when the Arkansas job opens up. And mark my words, the second the Arky job opens up, he is gone...

I know he had a few off the field issues at UNC, but Davis was about as good a coach as UNC will get. Theyve had 2 great coaches in Davis and Mack Brown the last 20 years. There must be something in the hopper that is pretty bad for them to make this move on a guy of his caliber THIS close to the season.

I would agree with all of that, other than I don't think he wants to start his head coaching career at a school that is about to get long dicked by the NCAA.   Now if you had said that UGA was going to fire Richt after this year and call Gus.  Then I would agree and get worried. 

They can confirm firing Butch today and I don't think Coach Gus would be taking it.   Now after this season.........

I would agree with all of that, other than I don't think he wants to start his head coaching career at a school that is about to get long dicked by the NCAA.   Now if you had said that UGA was going to fire Richt after this year and call Gus.  Then I would agree and get worried.
