"Hey my friends are the ones that wanted to eat at that shitty hole in the wall that only served bread and wine.  What kind of brick and mud business model is that.  Stick to the cart if that's all you're going to serve.  Then that dude came in with like 12 other people, and some of them weren't even wearing shoes, and the restaurant sat them right across from us. It was gross, and they were all stinky and dirty.  Then dude starts talking about eating his body and drinking his blood...I almost lost it.  That's the last supper I'll ever have there, and I hope he dies a horrible death."

You will be absolutely shocked by this one...

Quote
Police: Golfer John Daly drunk, detained

WINSTON-SALEM N.C. (AP)—Golfer John Daly was taken into custody Sunday morning by Winston-Salem police after he was found drunk outside an area Hooters restaurant.

Police said in a statement Wednesday that said officers went to the restaurant on a medical call. When they arrived, Daly was being treated by emergency workers after losing consciousness.

While at the restaurant, police said Daly “appeared extremely intoxicated and uncooperative,” refused repeatedly to be taken to the hospital and was asked to leave the restaurant by several workers.

Daly was taken to the Forsyth County Law Enforcement Detention Center for a 24-hour stay, until he was sober.

For whatever reason I am fascinated by his downward spiral.  It's incredible to see so much talent get wasted for the better part of each PGA tour season.  The recap of all the shit he's gotten himself into:

Quote
The John Daly recap, part 2: on the way down
By Jay Busbee

It's a sad fact that any time anyone now brings up John Daly's name, the first thing -- the first ten things -- you think of aren't his two major victories, but rather his litany of drunken sprees and bizarre "Hold my beer and watch this" redneckery. If you're one of those who doesn't care to see the darker side of golf, a forewarning: you probably want to take this post off.

Now, some of the Daly lowlights ...

• In 2007, Daly and his second wife were involved in a fight in Memphis, which is where the scratches on his cheek there at right came from. He claimed she attacked him with a steak knife; later reports indicated that the wounds may have been self-inflicted. (Daly's first wife allegedly had an affair with Roger Clemens. Good times.)

• In 1994, Daly caused something of an outrage on Tour when he charged that many of his fellow players were using cocaine, and that he was just sticking to the clean goodness of cigarettes and Diet Coke. Or, as Daly put it another way, "nicotine + caffeine = protein."

• This past March, coach Butch Harmon severed ties with Daly, saying that Daly wasn't even coming close to giving maximum effort and that Harmon was just wasting time. It may have been Daly's last, best chance to get his still-viable golf game back on track.

• Daly has become a YouTube sensation with his infamous "shirtless interview" and his beer-can tee shot with buddy Kid Rock.

• Daly has claimed gambling losses of $50 million, a stunning sum considering he's only made about $9 million in Tour earnings.

• Earlier this year, Daly was touring Hooters restaurants, and the scene was heartbreakingly pathetic as Daly posed for pictures for a few bucks a pop.

• And just a few days ago, Daly was found unconscious in another Hooters parking lot, the latest in a long line of disasters.

And on, and on, and on ... Daly continues to draw some of the largest galleries in golf, in part because nobody's quite sure when Daly will go batcrap crazy and start throwing his clubs into the crowd. Watching someone fall apart for a night is fun. Watching someone unravel like this ... it's getting ugly now, folks. Much as we love to bust on Daly, here's hoping he gets the help he needs so he's around to bust on that much longer.

Daly snatches camera, smashes it into a tree
By ROB GRIFFITH, Associated Press Writer

Australia (AP)—John Daly smashed a spectator’s camera into a tree while shooting a 6-over 78 in the first round of the Australian Open on Thursday, making it likely he will miss the cut for the third consecutive week Down Under.

After pushing his tee shot wide on the ninth hole—his last—Daly walked into a clump of trees, where spectator Brad Clegg tried to take a picture at close range.

Daly snatched the camera and smashed it against the nearest tree, telling the man, “You want it back, I’ll buy you a new one.”

He later released a statement via tournament organizers saying Clegg got too close.

“I was looking to take a drop and a camera was 6 inches away from my face. If I was 10 under, I would have felt the same,” Daly said in the brief statement. “My eyes are still burning from the flash of the camera.

“I feel it was very rude to put a camera that close to somebody’s face in any situation. The guy that had the camera had already taken a dozen shots at close range.”

Without saying another word, Daly took his penalty drop, finished the hole with a bogey and stormed off the course immediately after signing his card.

Asked if he would seek compensation, Clegg told the Australian Associated Press: “I don’t think I’ll be chasing him for the money. He’s a big bloke!”

Daly, who missed the cut at the Australian Masters and the PGA in the last two weeks and is being paid an appearance fee for his three-tournament trip to Australia, had three double bogeys, three bogeys and four birdies.

Clegg said he didn’t think he provoked Daly by going so close.

“I was bold, but I wasn’t unreasonable,” Clegg said.

Terms and conditions for tickets at the Australian Open prohibit the use of cameras on the course for spectators.

Tournament director Trevor Herden told reporters the episode was “an unfortunate incident,” but Daly would not face sanctions and confirmed the 42-year-old American would tee off in the second round on Friday.

PGA of Australasia commissioner Ben Sellenger said the tour has the power to impose a fine or other sanctions, but this will remain confidential.

“We’re reviewing the incident to see if any action is appropriate,” Sellenger said.

Herden said he spoke to Clegg and the spectator realized he should not have been using the camera without proper accreditation. Organizers offered Clegg tickets for the weekend, but he declined.

Daly is sensitive about cameras on the course, having required surgery earlier this year to fix a torn muscle in his stomach that he said he injured at the Honda Classic in 2007 when he tried to stop his swing after hearing the click of a fan’s camera.

Daly is making his first visit to Australia since 2002, when he left in controversial circumstances.

After taking a triple-bogey 7 on his last hole at the Australian PGA at Coolum that year, Daly threw his putter and ball into a greenside pond and later failed to sign for a 78 on his scorecard, disqualifying himself from a tournament.

Daly was later fined $5,600 by the Australasian PGA Tour and was ordered to write a letter of apology to a tour official he verbally abused, and to Craig Parry and his other playing partner, Greg Norman.

Daly is trying to finish a difficult year on a positive note.

He spent a night in jail on Oct. 27 after being found “extremely intoxicated and uncooperative,” police said, outside a Hooters restaurant in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Daly hasn’t had a PGA Tour card since 2006, when his two-year exemption expired from his last victory at the Buick Invitational in 2004. He made only five cuts in 17 starts on the PGA Tour this year and earned $56,000.

His only bright spot in the past month was a final-round 62 at the Hong Kong Open en route to a 17th-place tie.

I can't find a link, but I saw an interwebs video of how John Daly is making money this week at the Masters.

No, it's not by playing.

It's by running a parking lot close to Augusta National.  Apparently, he is the man to give money to if you want to park there.

I'm not kidding.  I'll try to find a link later today.

John Daly's horrifying new golf pants are visible from orbit

That John Daly, he does know how to blend into a crowd:

Earlier this morning, Daly took to the links in the Pro-Am segment of the Open de Espana at the PGA Golf Catalunya in Girona, Spain, wearing a retina-searing outfit that can charitably be described as "Upholstery Gone Wild." Or perhaps he's paying tribute to Hooters. Or maybe those pants are like one of those old Magic Eye images, where if you stare at them long enough, you can see ... no, no, let's not do that.

Anyway, congrats to Daly, once again breaking new fashion ground. At least he's not going shirtless this time. Or hawking Daly swag out of the back of a bus. Or assaulting fans with cameras. Or using beer cans as tees. Or selling his autograph at the aforementioned Hooters. Or ... you get the idea.

John Daly is slimmed down and fired up for Hollywood

By Jay Busbee

As one golf star falls, another rises.

For the past two decades, the name "John Daly" has been synonymous in golf circles with the kind of lifestyle better suited to country music than the soft piano tones you hear on every golf telecast. He could grip it and rip it better than anybody on Tour, and played his way into two majors, but off the course his life was one long speed down a dark highway with the lights off.

Daly hit rock bottom around this time last year. He was found passed out outside a North Carolina Hooters, and later smashed a fan's camera while playing in Australia. The PGA Tour suspended him for six months, and it looked like the long, hard road of golf's most famous party animal was about to end in an ugly fashion.

But then Daly did something nobody would ever have expected -- and considering what he'd done in the past, that's saying something:

He cleaned up. And now he might be going Hollywood.

Daly, as the photos above indicate, has shed well over 100 pounds in the last year as a result of lap-band surgery, and he's now a slim, trim 185. He's talking about writing a new book, and at a press conference Tuesday prior to the Australian PGA, he noted that he'd also like to see a movie made of the insanity that has been his life, both on and off the course.

He's already thought about who would play him in the movie. He recommended pal Kevin James for the "before" version. And for the "after"? "I just saw Matt Damon, how he swung a golf club, and I thought if I ever made a movie, I want him to be me," Daly said.

"The problem is, who is going to play all the ex-wives?" Daly laughed. He has four ex-wives whom he immortalized in a song, "All My Exes Wear Rolexes."

Daly's in the middle of a yearlong redemption tour. In addition to playing well at the British Open -- he made the cut where Tiger Woods didn't -- he's now back in Coolum, Australia at the site of one of his most famous blowups.  In 2002, he carded a triple-bogey 7 on the 18th hole, then threw his ball and putter into the lake and stormed off without signing his scorecard, disqualifying himself from the tournament. He was fined nearly $6,000 by the Australasian PGA Tour and ordered to write an I'm-sorry letter.  It doesn't look like Daly will be producing those kinds of sparks this weekend, but that's probably for the best.

Daly may no longer have the biggest waistline on tour, but he's still -- sappy sports metaphor coming -- got one of the game's biggest hearts.  He donned pink pants in support of Phil Mickelson's wife Amy in her fight against breast cancer earlier this year. And Tuesday, he took a not-so-subtle shot at players like Jesper Parnevik who have criticized Woods for his alleged off-course behavior: "I'm not too happy with what some of the players have said. Without him our tour would not survive as what it is when Tiger plays."

Whether or not Woods returns any time soon, it looks like Daly is back to stay. And that's very good for golf indeed.

Prepare for a new John Daly book, then the movie? [AP via Yahoo! Sports]

He definbitely looks 100% better.  I saw him at the Masters 3-4 years ago.  I was blown away at how short he is.  As are most of the golfers.  Most of these guys are dinky.  But, they tend to hit the ball a reeeeal long way.

Vijay Singh was pretty large.  He was playing with Mike Weir, who looked like a left handed dwarf.  Els is a giant compared to most of them.  It was the practice round so I didn't get to see Tiger.  He was probably busy...DOING something.

If you can find a course that will let you do it, I really suggest playing golf with no shirt on.  You'll never want to go back to a collard shirt again.

I usually play half of my rounds barefoot.  Never done both though.

Think he has a chance to win the British Open?  Things are happening for him like they did when he won it in 1995...and how could you lose with those pants?

Quote
John Daly adds another memory at St. Andrews
By Shane Bacon

When the 1995 British Open champion was introduced on the first tee on Thursday, Old Tom Morris was probably rolling in his grave. Floral-print pants? Turquoise hat?! Yellow grips?!? Was this guy here for the Open or some sort of outdoor fashion show?

That was probably the last time Morris would be questioning John Daly's place on this golf course. A birdie on the first and then a birdie on the second in what could best be considered as super scoring conditions at St. Andrews had Big John off to a great start. But that was only the beginning.

Before most people were awake on this side of the pond, Daly had carded seven birdies in 11 holes. He would par the next five holes, hitting the lip three times with putts all from good spots on the green. If anything, Daly was standing on the 17th tee frustrated with his round, not happy he was three strokes away from tying the course record. A pounded drive from the new tee on the Road Hole left John in the best position of the day on 17, but he couldn't take advantage, making his lone bogey.

A good drive on the 18th ended in a downhill lie, leaving Daly with the Texas wedge from well in front of the green, but he swapped the putt up the Valley of Sin, and had a 12-footer for birdie and a 65. When he struck it, Colin Montgomerie, who was sitting in the ESPN booth, said "Well done," as the putt looked to be breaking in, but Daly hit another lip, looked away in disgust, and had to "settle" for a 66. Still, Daly sits near the top of the leaderboard at a British Open.

The weather was the big story before the tournament began, with winds so strong on Wednesday that an exhibition on the Old was canceled. There was hardly a breath for the morning groups on Thursday, and it seemed just about everyone out there was taking advantage.

It's interesting how Daly's opening round might have turned out. Back in '95, when he won at this very course, John opened with a 67, only to have the conditions worsen for the rest of the week. The forecast calls for something similiar over the next few days, so maybe a good start and then having the ability to just hang around will be good for the 44-year-old Daly.

Our only hope here? That Daly's rain gear has a floral pattern.
