Sort of related to this; after reading Mick Foley's autobiography my impression of pro wrasslin' went from "It's fake...they ain't really hittin' each other." to "It's fake...but they are really wailin' on each other." Which pretty much makes it the same as pro boxing post Don King.
Didn't read his biography but I imagine it'd be similar to most guys that made a long career out of it. "I broke this twice, sliced this open in Tulsa, punctured a lung one night in Jacksonville, lost two teeth when I ran into..."
It's a show...one hell of a physically demanding show. These guys may not get hurt from "hitting" each other, but they put their bodies through things it's not meant to go through.
