I misremembered.  Shafer is at .240.  My bad, Jordan.  Think about this.  The Braves are 16 games over .500 right now and in control of the wildcard race for the most part.  This is happening with:

Shafer at .240

McLouth at .228

Heyward at .223

Gonzales at .230

Uggla at .205 (Granted, he looks to be back on track)

On the bright side, Freddie Freeman is a flat out ballah, both in the field and at bat.  This guy looks like an 8 year veteran.  He's got a sweet swing and the past two games, I've seen him take pitches that he may have been fooled on or was overmatched...and just flick his arms out there and punch a little liner for a hit. Great bat control and he's at .292 now.

I am happy with Freeman, and am glad to have David Ross as our backup catcher.  If they could get the bats going consistantly, they would be hard to bet against.

Dilemma:  The Cards can't hit.  Their offense sucks.

Solution:  Trade a young bat to the Toronto Blue Jays, in exchange for a rental #4 starter, and two bullpen pitchers.

Result:  0-2, at home, against the worst team in baseball, since the trade, collecting 5 runs and 11 hits in the two games combined.

Fuck me.

The problem with Freeman is, where does McCann go now?  There was a lot of talk before the season at moving him to 1st either next year or the year after to save his knees.  No way in hell that happens now.  And I'm with the consensus.  Dump McClouth and Alex Gonzalez.  Can Hunter Pence play Center?  If so, trade both for Pence.  Prado to SS, Hinske to LF.  Pence in Center.  And keep Heyward in the bottom of the lineup.  I don't want to see him batting at the top of the order anymore.

Yeah the Astros wanted Teheran in that trade talk and the Braves want to keep him.
As of this morning it seems Brandon Beachy could be swapped for 28 yr.old RF Carlos Quentin of White Sox.

Holy shit.  Braves trade Jordan Schaffer and some pitching prospects to the Astros for Michael Borne.  Borne brings a .300 average to Atlanta with 40 stolen bases.  With the way Freeman and Uggla are hitting, I'm liking this trade.

The Braves have a legit leadoff guy and now it gets interesting. Probably won't catch Philly but might keep the others from catching up. I love to watch speed on the bases. Haven't seen Constanza. Can he handle a bat?

Costanza, good speed guy.  Almost turned a bunt attempt into a 3 base error (and I still believe he was safe).  Not sure how he'd do as every day leadoff.  I was disappointed that he never got a steal sign the few times he's been on base in the last few games.  If Chipper and McCann can get healthy again, the Braves should have a potent lineup.  I think Dan should stay in cleanup with McCann batting 3rd and Freeman batting 5th, but I'm betting no way in hell does Chipper move to 6th.

Yeah it's kind of like the aging Jeter thing with Chipper in the 4 spot. I even like Freeman third, Uggla 4th and McCann fifth.
At least Bourn makes for some excitement when the bats go silent because he WILL take an extra base and score some early runs. Stats indicate he doesn't hit lefthanders worth a shit.
