The celebration amongst Georgia fans this week following Mark Richt's "Dream Team" recruiting success will, unfortunately, be tempered after the school announced today that mascot UGA VIII has passed away , the second UGA to pass away in the past three seasons. UGA VIII was only 17 months old, having been born in Sept. of 2009, and had served as Georgia's official mascot for only six regular season games (compiling a record of 4-2). But he was diagnosed with lymphoma earlier this year, and will now pass the baton back to "Russ," the interim mascot who served on the sidelines at the close of the 2009 season (following the death of UGA VII) and the first six games of 2010.Like all UGAs, UGA VIII was a white male English bulldog owned by the Frank W. "Sonny" Seiler family, who has bred the UGAs in a continuous line for the past 50 years. There is no current timetable for naming a replacement.
$5 says they use Isaiah Crowell's Signing Day Bulldog as the replacement.
ANOTHER UGA dies... at only 17 months old. The second in three years. I am sorry for their loss, but when are they gonna learn that inbreeding has detrimental effects on genetics? You would think that bammer fans and the British Royal Family would be example enough.
The damn thing probably died of shame from being associated with that bunch of pussies.
