Well, this is an emotionally charged issue.
I do not mean this comment as a criticism of Baptists.
I think that this supposition (see emphasis above) is not limited just to religious doctrine. Admittedly anecdotal in my experience I think it's endemic in the general population of America today. It's much easier to let someone tell you what to think on a given matter than to use the brain and cognitive thought process given to you by God to determine for yourself what to think.
And I'd add that it's even easier to 'feel'; that is, use emotions as your basis, rather than reasoning which GarMan might say is a very beta thing to do.
As for me I'm still not sure if Schrödinger's cat is alive or dead...
