It would have been beautiful if not for this paragraph.
To all of those who pretend today that they were confident that Chizik could do in two years what neither Pat Dye nor Tommy Tuberville could do in 22 years combined and what Shug Jordan could do only once in 25 seasons, it’s time to stop kidding yourself. Only the freakishly optimistic—the kind who predict a perfect season every season and then crow to the rafters on the rare occasions when it comes to pass—can claim to have called it.
I'm pretty sure he's referring to Prowler, Chopper, and probably myself.
Don't remember any of us predicting anything more than 7-8 wins last season. Don't see anyone predicting anything different next season. This year was special, and most people could recognize that pretty early. There may have been varying degrees to exactly how special people thought it could end up being, and due to Auburn fans' inherent skepticism, very few predicted a National Championship in the first third of the season.
Those that bugged him the most simply said that Chizik's tenure would not be a complete and utter failure that "makes us look back fondly on the Barfield years". Some of us had faith, maybe not the day he was hired, but certainly by the time the staff was assembled, that he could do very special things at Auburn. That it could actually be an upgrade from the Tuberville era, as great as it was in its peak.
He couldn't quite just eat the crow, and admit that us "babbling clowns" and "Sanchos" were right, and he was wrong. About Gene Chizik (hat, cattle). About the 2010 season (wolfboy).
This is about as much crow as we can realistically expect him to eat, though. So I guess I'll leave it at that.
