AUBURN -- Noel Johnson, who was one of the nation’s top basketball prospects out of Fayette County High School in Fayetteville, Ga., a couple of years ago, has transferred from Clemson to Auburn. The 6-foot-7 guard enrolled in school at Auburn this week and will be eligible to play for the Tigers next year. “Noel, when he came out of high school was a top 50 player in the country,†Auburn head coach Tony Barbee said on Tiger Talk. “He’s a big-time shooter When he lets the ball go it looks like it’s going in every time from deep and with range. He can do a lot of things. He’s very skilled. “We’re excited that he’s joined the Auburn family. He’s going to be a positive addition not only on the court, but off the court as well.†Johnson originally signed with USC but was granted a release when former USC coach Tim Floyd resigned under pressure. Johnson then signed with Clemson under coach Oliver Purnell, who left for DePaul last spring. New Clemson coach Brad Brownell’s motion offense was cited by Johnson has a bad fit and the reason he left Clemson. Johnson averaged 4.8 points per game as a freshman. Johnson is the son of former NBA player Lynbert “Cheese†Johnson.
