Cecil Gets Invite

I understand him wanting to be there, being a family and all, but the guy also almost screwed up his son's college career and the whole Auburn season if the NCAA wanted to be heavy handed. I don't think the NCAA would have told AU there were violations by Cecil if he just listened and that was all there is too it. I think he did have a lapse in judgment when told he could get money and he pursued it, then had a crisis of conscience. He is only human, but as a fan and as a father, he knew it was wrong the moment he was told there could be money, so I have a hard time getting over that amount of selfishness, so I have no sympathy if he does not get to be there either. I support Cam, but I don't have to support his dad.

It will be a distraction if he does go, because even if he does try to stay hidden, the media will try to seek him out. They will know what hotel the family is staying at, so unless Cecil secretly stays somewhere else, it will not be too hard to find him. The media will probably be even waiting at the airport, so Cecil will have a hard time dodging them even then.

EDIT IN:
ESPN just confirmed that the elder Newton is on the guest list and has a seat reserved for him. However, the Heisman Trust said it is not confirmed that Cecil is coming or not.

If Cam's OK with him being there, then I'm OK with him being there.  And if Cam wasn't OK with it, I can't see him going.

You meet a man on the Oregon Trail. He tells you his name is Terry. You laugh and tell him: "That's a girl's name!" Terry shoots you. You have died of dissin' Terry.

Let a reporter ask the wrong question.  Cam will choke a bitch.

Listening to some sports talk a little earlier about this and they talked about how Ingram was really questioned about his dad after the ceremony.  This just worries me and I don't trust a damn soul in the media anymore.

My doctor told me I needed to stop masturbating.  I asked him why, and he said, "because I'm trying to examine you."

And I thought that was seriously out of line with Ingram. Mark shoulda dropkicked a bitch.

Newton's father has not commented publicly since the NCAA ruling was issued, but released a statement Thursday through George Lawson, the Atlanta-based Newton family attorney, stating that he will not attend the Heisman Trophy award ceremony.

Cam Newton is the favorite to receive the Heisman Trophy Saturday in New York.

"For all of my 50 years of life, coupled with 25 years of marriage, I have made an exhausting attempt to be a good husband, father and generally a good person of integrity," said Cecil Newton. "The past 60 days have caused all that my family worked to accomplish to come into question.

"So that my son Cam Newton can receive all the honors and congratulations that he has worked so hard to accomplish without distraction, I have decided not to be in attendance at the ceremony as it will perhaps rob Cam and the event of a sacred moment."

Lawson said that Cecil Newton cooperated with the NCAA throughout the entire process.

"Cam's father participated in the investigation truthfully and honestly in terms of what he knew and what he didn't know, regardless of the consequences," Lawson told WSB-TV in Atlanta.

Tough call, but it was the right decision.  Scott Van Pelt stated today the media had every right to ask, and absolutely should ask the questions if Cecil shows up.  The media will eat him if he makes an appearance.

I'm normally pro-cannibalism in these situations, but I've grown weary of the storyline.

"Hey my friends are the ones that wanted to eat at that shitty hole in the wall that only served bread and wine.  What kind of brick and mud business model is that.  Stick to the cart if that's all you're going to serve.  Then that dude came in with like 12 other people, and some of them weren't even wearing shoes, and the restaurant sat them right across from us. It was gross, and they were all stinky and dirty.  Then dude starts talking about eating his body and drinking his blood...I almost lost it.  That's the last supper I'll ever have there, and I hope he dies a horrible death."

A dirty uncle once tried to test me. I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti.

I'm glad to hear this.  Glad he got the invite and glad he made the decision for the reasons he did.
