Forget It

Forget the Heisman.

I hope Auburn, Gene Chizik and Cam have all come to the conclusion that the Heisman is now moot.

If Cam is truly eligible and will remain eligible, then all we can control is winning on the field.  Impressing the media, the rivals, and the Heisman voters is a struggle we can not influence.

All of this smearing does nothing to our SEC and BCS hopes.

However, if Cam is eligible, then we will keep winning.  We will blow through Amen Corner.  We will beat Florida in Atlanta.  We will beat Oregon in Glendale.

Then the egg on the media's face can slowly drip and dry and become crusty.  In the end, we'll be able to see clearly who is smiling with white teeth and who is grimacing with a rotten mouth.

In the end, what all does this smear campaign accomplish?  A ruined Heisman winner?  As if the Heisman has been valid the past ten years?  As if every year, there aren't complaints about the winner not deserving it?

In the end, what does matter is who is on the field playing, who is on the field winning, and what the NCAA reveals in the future.  For now, I say we put a lid on this pot of simmering water and wait until it's time to put the noodles in, which ain't now.

I have no choice but to drop this for now.  I have a massive contract to finish before COB today.  I have not done shit on it since last Thursday... so I gotta focus.

And yes, GF - Auburn is the most important thing.  For now, Cam is still an Auburn man, but I believe in Auburn and love it.

"Hey my friends are the ones that wanted to eat at that shitty hole in the wall that only served bread and wine.  What kind of brick and mud business model is that.  Stick to the cart if that's all you're going to serve.  Then that dude came in with like 12 other people, and some of them weren't even wearing shoes, and the restaurant sat them right across from us. It was gross, and they were all stinky and dirty.  Then dude starts talking about eating his body and drinking his blood...I almost lost it.  That's the last supper I'll ever have there, and I hope he dies a horrible death."

What can we do for Auburn?  What can Auburn do for Auburn?

Constantly fight back against a media machine hellbent on smearing Cam Newton's name?

Constantly try to prove that we're innocent when there's no hard evidence that says we're guilty?

No one is saying Cam is bigger than the university.  In fact, that's exactly what I'm saying.  Cam is simply a player on this team that is trying to win ball games.  Defending against all of this garbage only helps Cam win the Heisman.  Until he's ruled ineligible, it has no bearing on the fans, the team, or the results on the field.

No, Cam is not bigger than the University.  But right now, he's the face of this University.  What happens with him reflects on how the public views Auburn.  Don't tell me that doesn't matter to you.  If it doesn't then why all the fuss?  Why respond with venom to all the writers and bloggers who look to be trying to smear his name and implicate Auburn....then in the same breath, applaud those who write with a voice of reason?

I think that there are a lot of Heisman voters who, for their own reasons, would not hold this against Cam.  Maybe the same shit happened to them but no one said anything.  Maybe they hate the fuck out of Urban Meyer.  Maybe Dan Mullen once pissed in their Cheerios.  Maybe they know from their own experiences how shit like this can get blown way the fuck out of proportion.

I still think he wins.  To me, unless someone plays a gotdamn tape of Cam or his daddy asking for money, this is all bullshit.

Somewhere in a Psych ward for patients with Goat AIDS, Thayer Evans is cackling loudly and beating off:

Quote
There's a new second-place contender behind Newton. Boise State quarterback Kellen Moore nudged past Oregon running back LaMichael James. Moore, the nation's top-rated passer, received two first-place votes and 36 points overall. That's one point ahead of James, who leads the nation in rushing at yards per game.

You talkin to me?

Everyone missed what I was talking about, guess I need to clarify.  Much like THS posted, I don't care about the Heisman, sure I hope Cam gets it, but it is not going to affect the way I feel about Auburn.  I don't think this stuff is true and I stand behind Cam 100%.  However if it is deemed that their were improprieties that went on behind closed doors and Auburn (did not have a hand in it) and he is deemed ineligible, well you know how I will feel. My first love is for this University.

Someone else said that if these allegations were true and that if Auburn did take part in them, that he would be done with Auburn.  I hope he was referring to the football team, because again my love for this university goes beyond the gridiron.  I would feel betrayed, and would hold a pitchfork for those that did the damage, but my love for Auburn would not waiver.

Because it's gotten old.

Every time Auburn responds or the allegations are proven ridiculous or irrelevant, the news comes out with another paper thin "bomb" to drop on Auburn.

It's fruitless to keep fighting against this right now.  Let them have their debates and discussions, and we can continue to practice like the favorite to win the SEC.

Okay, sentimental rant coming.

Brian, I agree with you about the love for Auburn.  I don't say this to toot my horn and certainly, saying this wouldn't do that anyway.  I graduated from Auburn and met my wife there.  My daughter attended Auburn, as did my sister, my father, his father etc. My dad has been a scholly contributor for 40+ years.  Again, big deal...all of us have ties in some way to this school whether we actually went there or not or have our own building named after us.  We all love it in our own way.  HOWEVER...

The one thing that does tie us together as the Auburn family is...Football!!!  It's not the Chemistry Department or the Engineering Department and we don't sit around discussing the inner-workings of Auburn's admissions process or how Auburn's Interior Design grads are doing in the work place. If you didn't go to Auburn, it's your connection to the family.  I spent 7 great years....I mean 4 great years living there, but it's Auburn football that brings me back to campus.  Yes, I have my diploma framed and on the wall, but I don't look at it harkening back to those crazy days in Haley Center.

Auburn football is why Auburn message boards exist.  I'd dare say that when you get down to it, it's the sole reason that most of us actually know each other.  We didn't all originally meet at an Education Major's reunion and BBQ.  Auburn football is the reason we travel to New Orleans and Atlanta and to the campus itself as an Auburn family.  Rolling Toomer's Corner after a win is how we connect with thousands of others in the Auburn family.  It's the reason why those who didn't attend the University have fallen in love with the place and it's people and want to be a part of that family.

I'm not saying that football IS Auburn University.  It's not.  There's a million more things that go into making up Auburn. But there's no disputing that Auburn football is the biggest factor in bringing us together as a family.  We can all say the creed and believe in it and blah, blah, blah....but we'd be saying and living it by ourselves if football wasn't so damn much a part of everyone's life and the focal point of why hundreds of thousands of people flock to the campus every year. My point ultimately is that if those who run the program and are in a sense, the caretakers of what brings so many of us together, wind up disgracing this program and this University and causing irreparable damage to it, it'll be a long time before I'll come back or be able to get that great feeling and anticipation of going back.  I do have a certain trust in those who run this program and if they abuse that trust and blow up Auburn football....

Usatoday just released that Cam is still the runaway leader in the Heisman race according to their poll.
I was listening to Mike and Mike this AM on the way to work.  Herbie was the guest at the time and they, of course, were talking about Cam and AU.  Herbie said that he would vote for Cam, b/c there is nothing concrete and nothing is proven.  That if he didn't vote for him b/c of what might happen and then to find out there is nothing there is doing "the kid" and injustice.  That he would rather vote for him to have it stripped away in the future, than to not vote for him, deny him of his accolades on the field, just b/c he has heard rumors.

Real Talk here.......

I will be the first to admit that my greatest regret was not being able to finish my degree at AU and having to come home.  Shit happens, life changes, you fuck up and you move on, but that is another story for another time.

Even though I had to finish elsewhere, I still look back on those times as the greatest years of my life.  I had a blast, and it wasn't all about football.  When I go down for a game now, I still take some time to walk around campus and have some old memories come back to life.

It's more than football, but I would be lying if I said that I come back to visit for something other than football, basketball or baseball for the most part.  (I have been lucky enough to go visit for work, but has only been once or twice and we don't plan on going back)

Exactly AU1.  That's what I'm getting to.  We all love the place but would any of us come back, take the time and effort just to visit and walk around if we didn't have a common cause to bring us back?  Maybe once in a blue moon but realistically, no.  How many of us would actually know each other if Auburn football didn't exist?

Wait....come to think of it....damn you Auburn football.

Yep...even listeners to the Dan Patrick show were in favor of Cam winning it.  As long as there's no knee jerk reaction causing Cam to be suspended pending investigation...Cam wins it.
