I think he's spot on. You focus on what you have to do, do it well, and the rest will work out. You can't focus or dwell on what you can't control... That being said, it's his job to make sure these guys understand that, and he obviously needs to come up with new ways to keep these fellows focused. That is his job after all.
Oh handsome one...
I agree, and I agree with what Saban is saying. However, they ALL sound like they're on script in the post game.
You can't evaluate the play of your team without talking about the players in terms of the team. There's a major difference from throwing a particular player under the bus, and talking about what your team failed to accomplish. You can say "We can't afford to turn the ball over". You can't say "Ingram and Richardson turning the ball over cost us the game". The net effect is the same in terms of what you really said...but there's a difference.
It might help things a little if Saban would even acknowledge (more than just in passing or in claiming how his team didn't do what they were supposed to do) that they had a formidable opponent on the other side of the ball.
Heard Saban talk about the big run play that LSU got off that speed sweep. Said they came out in a formation and personnel package that threw them off, that bammer was in bad personnel, and that the motion caused them to get outflanked and outnumbered at the point of attack, and they didn't adjust...said the shoulda called Time Out. This is one of those thing fans don't see or even realize...it's one play out of the ordinary for LSU...LSU runs 85% plays bammer has seen on film, and they run one play, from different personnel and formation...and they put this play in for the express purpose of showing something new and hoping it nets SOME success...it got them a TD. That one single play call is more "offensive genius" than any fan will realize, and Saban knows it is one play that probably cost them the game or contributed to it heavily. IOW the defensive genius got "out coached" by the OC, Gary Crowton, that many LSU fans have wanted canned for a while.
