What's your take on the whole Cam Newton fiasco?

Obviously our opinions are going to favor Auburn and Cam Newton being innocent.  I'm curious what the outside world thinks.

Is it obvious we're playing with a dirty player whom we acquired through dirty recruiting practices?  Is this a story that's been blown out of proportion?

I think it's horseshit. I give you guys a hard time when some conspiracy theory comes up about UA and some of you discount anything halfway reasonable, and then substitute it with some tinfoil hat theory. That street runs both ways. I'll spot Cam any reasonable explanation. Like the whole where did the money to fix the church come from question. How about Cam's brother plays in the NFL and probably gave pops a few bucks. Perfectly reasonable, right? It's perfectly reasonable that he picked AU because of a few things, other than money:

1. Who the fuck really wants to go play at MSU? Granted, Newton would have been the one man wonder boy there, but it's still MSU.

2. Obviously AU's offense is a perfect fit for him.

3. Maybe Newton knew there were some shady dealings going on with MSU and didn't want any part of that.

4. The kid just liked AU and wanted to play for them.

There is no hard proof of anything that has been told to the public at this point, so I'm not going to jump to conclusions. I think part of the reason this whole thing is even being mentioned is because of the hype AU and Newton are getting. Newton, at this point, is a heavy favorite for the Heisman, and AU is on track to play for a NC. That makes it a story. Now, if this shit with MSU has merit, and AU did pay Newton? You can bet I'm going to L A U G H my ass off at you guys. I'm personally going to come to each of your houses, and take a shit on the hood of your cars. I just don't see AU paying Newton. Sure, Chizik and Co. knew they were going to break a few rules with Big Cat Weekend, and they didn't care. That is a far cry from a school paying a player $200k to play, though. I really just don't see it being true.

IF proof does arise that MSU was offered a cash deal for Cam, and IF there is proof of a close relationship between Rogers and Cam's family, I'd be very interested in knowing why Cam chose Auburn.

Until solid proof is provided for both of those "If's", I believe it's a non issue that is only interesting in the realm of the internet.

Again, your first IF is meaningless. I could call Mal Moore's office and offer to provide a player in exchange for cash, that doesn't mean bammer is on the hook for anything wrong.  It's how you handle that situation that counts.

The second IF...yeah, I'd hate to have it come out that there was a relationship there.

The first IF would be very meaningful if the second IF were true.  That's why I divided them with the word "and", instead of listing them separately.

AND I see that...you're correct.

The fractured story was released as if someone thought that another party might step up to fill in the blanks. It might not have mattered to the party whether or not that someone could tie up any loose ends or substantiate anything.

Is Bond an employee of MSU?

John Bond is their Stan White.  Don't know if he's directly employed by MSU, or MSU's radio network.
