Spurrier with a nice dig at bammer...
« on: October 10, 2010, 11:40:20 AM »
Watching his coaches show as I write this on SportsSouth...he says "Heck we scored on our first three possessions...we can't do that against Furman, but somehow managed it against bammer."

Took a little swipe at McElroy too for holding the ball too long.

Yeah the chief cock hasn't had too terribly much to crow about but yesterday was an extraordinary effort, certainly not the Bama gameplan he expected and a great win for his team.

Certainly looked to me like they got everything they planned for from bammer.  Bammer hasn't beaten anybody by surprising them with new schemes the last couple of years.

That was a 3 point shot JR. bama doesn't try too much flashy stuff, although I saw more of that yesterday than the last two years combined. What did surprise me is that they didn't run their horses more often. Yeah sure, SC was shutting the run down but isn't that bamas bread butter? Isn't the style of offense they run suppose to break teams down by continuing to pound the rock even if it isn't working at the time? bama got away from this too fast in my opinion. I haven't seen Saban panic like this since he was at LSU.

I think I said it here yesterday...

As long as they were within 2 possessions of WINNING...ie down by 13 or less like at Ark., bammer wouldn't panic.  When it got to be a game of 14 to tie or more, bammer was in uncharted territory.  Saban isn't a come from behind kind of coach, clearly.   As long as he can stay within his game plan, he's good.  Get him out of it, and he's not.

I like Spurrier. He can talk all the shit he wants, he backed it up and beat us. And McElroy DOES need to learn how to get rid of the ball. We took a shit ton of negative yardage on plays where he had all day to do something with it, but just waited on pass protection to break down. I think the OL did a pretty good job on pass pro, but they can't keep it up forever on every pass play.

Saban went cute with McElroy early and they never recovered. The first three series tell it all.
