Let Me Nitpick One Thing

I haven't read through all the threads so I don't know if this has been discussed. Actually, I don't care, because my take is the only one that matters anyway.

Anywho....who was the color guy for Auburn's game Saturday? Occasionally, you hear someone doing a telecast and you notice that this individual is just....well, not good. This dude has to be the worst I have ever encountered...evah. I kept thinking this has to be his first time and he's nervous or some shit. He knew nothing about the teams and called LMAO the "Warbirds" at least 6 times. The problem is, he wasn't trying to be funny. He absolutely did not know their mascot name. It went on through the 2nd half and the play by play guy kept correcting him.

"These Warbirds are a scrappy bunch"

"Warhawks"

"Oh, sorry....Warhawks"

He couldn't analyze a simple play and knew nothing about any player on the field with the exception of Cam and that left handed QB for the Warbirds. Yeah, ultimately I know I'm nitpicking but it's rare to come across someone that F'n bad to a point it's almost distracting.

That was Herm Edwards???? I knew they were calling him Corch, but I thought he must have been an assistant at a 2A high school. Was he on drugs Saturday?

I wish... but we listened to him call an LSU game a week or so ago, and it was just as bad.

Herm Edwards. Yeah, he's coached NFL...no fucking football knowledge at all. And another in a long list of commentators that people love to criticize. Which, to my way of thinking has become a sport in and of itself. In fact, I can't think of a current play-by-play/color team on TV that people don't A: say has no knowledge of the game even though they have years in the game, and B: sound horrible. It's not that I'm defending them, but I'm getting rather sick of everybody whining about every fucking play by play and color guy. Who gives a shit? You couldn't do any better, even though you think you could. And do you think he gives a fuck who the Warbirds are anyway? Does anybody, other than Saban?

Far worse. Most of the time, the beef with a commentator is about biased reporting etc. People hate Turd Dirkstreet because he pimps the Big 10 all the time but you can't fault his knowledge or delivery. Verne and Gary are the same way. I find Danielson to be over the top critical with his analysis but overall, they're a decent team. Yes, they'll make a mistake here and there but who doesn't. With Herm, he literally could barely string 2 coherent sentences together. I'm not exagerrating in the least when I say he called LMAO the "Warbirds" no less than 6 times during the game. I started getting embarrassed for the guy. It was like he prepared by picking up a local newspaper that morning and reading the write up on the game and said, let's go.

And by the way, I give a shit when someone is covering AU and it's obvious they're ill prepared to talk intelligently about a team or it's players. I don't care about the bias end for the most part. In fact, the only time I think I've ever gotten pissed about that sort of thing is when Vern and Gary were dancing to Soulja Boy along with the UGA players. That kicked me in the nads but probably more because AU was getting shit stomped at the time.

I was ticked off about Edwards because he was so bad in every aspect of his delivery. No knowledge whatsoever about either team and simply breaking down a play seemed like calculus to him.

Ugh I hate Gary and Verne...that is like nails on a chalkboard to me.

Bob Davie and his cohort are awful.

Musberger is a dope (like Verne), but I like Kirk and they get props for having EA on their crew.

I actually like the Thursday night Crew of Palmer, James, and Davis plus new girl Brown (is hot). Probably the best for me is Nessler and Blackledge, although I hate Holly Rowe as their sideline. McDonough and Millen ain't too terrible.

Well, Edwards knows football. But it was the fucking La Tech Warbirds vs Auburn Tigers. They weren't going to send the A Game Gameday crew to do it. Seriously, get over the commentating.

Nope. If something sux that bad, I'm probably going to comment on it. In this case, I said I was nitpicking anyway. Even though it's JUST LMAO, I imagine their fans are not real happy with the quality and the espin color guy not having a clue who the fuck they were. Would any Auburn fan be overjoyed if Corch Edwards called us the War Eagles all afternoon? Don't think so. In fact, there would probably be 3-4 off this board emailing espin and articles written about it in sports pages across the state.

Like I said, it's become a popular sport to hate on play by play and color guys. Not sure when it started, and I don't get the fascination with it.. I hear it constantly from the likes of Finebaum callers, but rarely in the real world. Shane from Centerpoint loves dogging commentators. You'll probably hear him talk about Gary Danielson today if you listen. Once heard him say that he judges a guys commentating skills on how good player he was when he played. Just sayin'.

I have no real fascination with it and don't usually comment unless I see/hear something epically shitty. That being said, I do think it's relevant since sports is so much a part of our culture and something so many of us are passionate about. For years, Monday Night Football had a revolving door of color guys in an attempt to find the right combo and get the old magic back. They never stopped to think that MNF wasn't relevant itself anymore because football had long since become a 5-6 night a week deal.

As I said earlier, you may not like what Twirt Birdsfeet has to say but I can live with a difference in opinion. You can't deny the guy is professional through and through. My extreme dislike of Lou Holtz, on the other hand, stems not from his schlobbing of the Notre Dame knob, but from his inability to speak coherently without spitting all over the the TV monitor.
