Yeah, I knew you were giving this up for a weekend of drinking, golfing and debauchery with numerous miscreant X'rs.  And you call yourself and Auburn man.

Wait, what time are you guys playing?

There are still slots available.  Bring Troop along.

I'm going up Saturday for 9:30 practice, 11:30 Low Country Boil, 12:30 beers.

I'll let you know if we're tackling or thudding.  Somebody tell my computerly impaired ass how to put pics on this site cause' I plan on taking a lot of them.

Pic #1 shows Neiko Torched getting beat by 7 yards for a score.

Pic #2 shows Desmond Washington throwing a mean form body block tackle...attempt on Michael Dyer.

Pic #3 shows Ziemba coming out of the locker room at 9:25.
Let us know how the BBQ is insider.

Practice makes perfect...

unless we look bad, then it's meaningless.  Check.

Actually the correct saying is "Perfect practice makes perfect."

You practice perfect shit, you end up with really good shit. But in the end, it is still shit.

I think what we are seeing is the fruits of all the offensive work that has taken place over the last year or so. Couple this with all of the dynamic offensive players that have been brought in, and you have an offense that is ahead of the defense.

The defense still needs more work to get all of the younger guys on the same page. I think if we can hang on the first 5 games with the defense still getting experience, the rest of the season will see a huge change from a defensive standpoint. What we are seeing with the missed tackles is mostly guys over thinking and getting to the tackle late. This causes last second panic tackling. Tackling involves getting to the target, settling in and pushing through. The diving and last second crap is usually luck rather than technique. As the defense learns the assignments without having to think them through, we'll see better tackling.

When I was at Troy Wayne Bolt tried to get Gene on the Troy staff. They are great buddies and Gene told him no offense but he wanted to be a head coach and he needed to move up to a bigger school and hopefully maintain the DC level. Wayne called CTT and told him about Mean Gene. When Gene got the job (at allbarn) he promised to pay Wayne back. What Gene promised him was a DC job with Gene whenever he became a HD. True to his word when he became the HC at Iowa State he hired Wayne as his DC. I know when Wayne was at Troy he never taught hit hard and hope for a tackle. I would be surprised if Wayne Bolt did not make it onto Gene's staff at allbarn before too long.

Bolt was his DC at ISU...he's paid him back, and had to demote him, and he's on the administrative staff at Auburn now.  I don't expect Bolt to be on the field coaching again.

I have not talked to Wayne in long time. I knew Wayne was having a hard time at ISU and Gene had to make a change but I did not know he was on the admin. staff at allbarn. Thanks for the info. At one time Wayne was an AWESOME coach. He could coach anything and those boys were great. When he was at Troy he coached O-line first and that was the best our O-line had been or was for quite a while. Then LB moved him to DC and LB coach. Our D was legit. Back then he weighed like 500 lbs or something like that he was FREAKIN' HUGE. But damn could he coach. I heard he had gastric bypass sugery and lost a ton of weight. I hate he is not coaching anymore. But thanks again for the info. I am glad he has a job.

I don't know Wayne's full coaching resume...he was an OL for Dye at East Carolina, and defense may not have been the side of the ball he needed to be on.  I've heard he could coach too.   Bolt was dismissed out of hand by many because he was so big, but I've heard good things about him.  They say he's fun to be around.  I suspect players liked him.
