Our swimming and diving kicks ass, is just does

....there is no way around it.  We're looking good again in the SEC championships.

Going for a 14th consecutive championship in any sport in the SEC is just ridiculous, and something to be proud of.

The men are leading and the women are hanging in there in 3rd.  Our men won the 50 freestyle for the 8th straight year, and also won the relay for the 8th straight year.

ATHENS, Ga. -- The Auburn men and Georgia women pulled away in the rankings during the second day of competition at the 2010 Southeastern Conference Swimming and Diving Championships Thursday at Gabrielsen Natatorium.

The Auburn men, who are vying for their 14th consecutive SEC Championship, placed first in the 50 freestyle, 200 freestyle relay and 1-meter springboard and finished with a top score of 291 points. In second place is Florida with 282 points followed by Georgia (205) and Alabama (171).

The Georgia women, sweeping the 500 freestyle, topped the leaderboard after Day 2 with a score of 300 points, followed by Florida (266), Auburn (248) and Tennessee (171).

The Gators won the gold in both the 500 freestyle and the 200 individual medley. In the 500 freestyle, Conor Dwyer pulled ahead in the last 25 yards after battling with Alabama¹s Mark Randall the majority of the race to capture the victory for Florida with a time of 4:14.58.

Both first and second place belonged to Florida in the 200 individual medley with Shaune Fraser edging out teammate Omar Pinzon with a time of 1:43.53.
This marks the fourth consecutive year that the SEC champion in this event hails from Florida.

Top-ranked Auburn triumphed in both the 200 freestyle relay and 50 freestyle for the eighth consecutive year. The Auburn foursome of Adam Brown, Karl Krug, Christopher Fox and Gideon Louw had a steady lead throughout the race with Louw pulling ahead on the last lap and finishing with a winning time of 1:16.16. In the 50 freestyle, Louw outpaced teammate Brown by just .07 seconds to win with a time of 19.18.

Starting off women¹s swimming competition were the Lady Bulldogs filling the medal stand in the 500 freestyle.  The trio of Wendy Trott, Allison Schmitt and Chelsea Nauta went 1-2-3 to sweep the event. Trott won with a time of 4:38.21 with Schmitt and Nauta close behind. The same Georgia threesome swept the 500 freestyle last year with Schmitt claiming the victory followed by Nauta and Trott in second and third place, respectively.

Florida¹s Gemma Spofforth reigned supreme in the 200 individual medley. Spofforth started off with the lead and was challenged only by Morgan Scroggy of Georgia. Scroggy closed the gap on the final lap but Spofforth prevailed with a time of 1:55.39.

The Florida women also claimed the title in the 200 freestyle relay for the second consecutive year. The winning relay team of Shara Stafford, Spofforth, Sarah Bateman and Stephanie Napier posted a time of 1:28.71. Tennessee¹s Michele King captured her second straight SEC win in the 50 freestyle with a time of 22.06 over Georgia¹s Anne-Marie Botek. A year ago, King and Botek shared the SEC title.

Both Auburn teams prevailed in the diving competition. Kelly Marx, who placed in the top-3 all four years while at Auburn, capped off his senior year with a first-place finish in 1-meter diving scoring 400.90. Alabama¹s Adam Booher placed second with a score of 397.05.

The only new record set was by Vennie Dantin of Auburn, who prevailed in women¹s 3-meter diving with an SEC record score of 371.65. Hannah Moore of Georgia posted the second-best score of 364.55.

Friday preliminaries will begin at 10 a.m. with finals starting at 6 p.m. The events being contested on Day 3 include 400 individual medley, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke, men¹s platform diving and 400 medley relay.

ESPNU will air two 90-minute shows from the SECs on Feb. 28 at 8 p.m. for the men and March 2 at 6 p.m. for the women. The shows will include highlights from the meet along with interviews of student-athletes and coaches.

"To me Auburn is not in Auburn, Alabama. Auburn is the people who care about Auburn, the people who love Auburn. Wherever they are, that’s Auburn, Auburn is in your heart. You play for it."

You can keep a wooden stake in your trunk
On the off-chance that the fairy tales ain't bunk
And Imma keep a bottle of that funk
To get motel parking lot, balcony crunk.
