BTW...Uga VII passed away today.
« on: November 19, 2009, 08:24:47 PM »
Quote
Just a week after a clean bill of health, Uga VII, the University of Georgia football mascot, died unexpectedly Thursday morning in Savannah.

Caroline Bond, 3, from St. Augustine, FL pests UGA VII in the lobby of the team hotel October 31, 2008. Caroline's parents Michelle and Samuel are 2000 grads of UGA.

AJC In only his second season as Georgia's mascot, Uga VII has passed away.

Uga VII hung out with Georgia quarterback Joe Cox before last week's home game against Auburn.

"You can imagine, we are devastated," Swann Seiler, daughter of Uga VII owner, told the AJC. "He was such a sweet dog. This is a very hard day."

The Seiler family called the dog's Savannah veterinarian Thursday after noticing the dog was not well, Swann Seiler said. The dog was taken to a local hospital.

The cause of death was an apparent heart attack.

"Uga has gone the way of all great bulldogs....up in the sky," longtime sideline reporter Loran Smith told the AJC.

Uga VII, named "Loran's Best" after the announcer, made his sideline debut on Aug. 30, 2008 in the Bulldogs' opener vs. Georgia Southern. He compiled a record of 16-7 during his tenure, the shortest for any in the Uga family.

Since 1956, the University of Georgia's mascot has come from a line of solid-white English bulldogs named Uga, owned by Sonny and Cecelia Seiler.

"We are all in a state of shock," Sonny Seiler said. "We had no warning whatsoever."

There will be no live mascot at Georgia¹s game on Saturday but a wreath will be placed on Uga VII's doghouse on the north sideline.

The previous University of Georgia mascot, Uga VI, died June 27, 2008, also of heart problems.

"I'm not a very good prognosticator," Smith told the AJC. "I wrote a story on him for the game program, and I said he was going to be a lucky dog because he's No. 7."

Burial details have not been finalized, Smith said.

Head coach Mark Richt said news of the mascot's sudden death was shocking.

"You never think something like that could happen that quickly, but it certainly did," Richt said. "It’s sad we won’t have him on the sideline anymore.”

Damn.

As much as I despise Ga, I hate to hear that.

I didn't think he looked all that great last week at the game.... I had an English bulldog when I was in high school named Conan. I took him with me to college and he wore a either a blue or orange polo kiddie shirt everywhere he went. I adored him....and I went to bed for a week when he died.

RIP uga.

A national championship is a wonderful thing, but if you're not enough without it, you'll never be enough with it.

I hate to hear that someone has lost a pet...

BUT...

Fuck this dog and his over-inflated reputation.

After living in Georgia for three years, I found the most predictable (and trite) thing said by any UGA fan to be:

"We've got an Uga-line bulldog!!!"

Fuck the mutts and their fat dogs, too.

"Hey my friends are the ones that wanted to eat at that shitty hole in the wall that only served bread and wine.  What kind of brick and mud business model is that.  Stick to the cart if that's all you're going to serve.  Then that dude came in with like 12 other people, and some of them weren't even wearing shoes, and the restaurant sat them right across from us. It was gross, and they were all stinky and dirty.  Then dude starts talking about eating his body and drinking his blood...I almost lost it.  That's the last supper I'll ever have there, and I hope he dies a horrible death."

And usually they visit the Auburn vet school for medical issues...

Someone should explain to them the correlation between inbreeding and the heart condition that has killed the last two UGAs.  I understand the tradition and all, but at some point, you gotta introduce some new DNA into the line or they will wind up with a dog that is only suitable as a mascot for bammer due to its messed up genetics.

Well, the first game without their mascot isn't going to good.

UK 34
UGA 27

UK has the ball, 2nd and 5 with 2:11 left in the 4th Qtr.  And Bob Davie still hopes that his Bulldogs gets the ball back.
