If you value your 2nd amendment rights then you had best take heed of this.  I received this in an e-mail but from my preliminary search it looks legit.

In a nuttshell this is what it says....

Basically this would make it illegal to own a firearm - any rifle
with
a clip or ANY pistol unless:

.It is registered

.You are fingerprinted

.You supply a current Driver's License

.You supply your Social Security #

.You will submit to a physical & mental evaluation at any time of their
choosing

.Each update - change or ownership through private or public sale must
be reported and costs $25 - Failure to do so you automatically lose the
right to own a firearm and are subject up to a year in jail.

.There is a child provision clause on page 16 section 305 stating a
child-access provision. Gun must be locked and inaccessible to any
child under 18.

They would have the right to come and inspect that you are storing your
gun safely away from accessibility to children and fine is punishable
for up to 5 yrs. in prison.

"Hey my friends are the ones that wanted to eat at that shitty hole in the wall that only served bread and wine.  What kind of brick and mud business model is that.  Stick to the cart if that's all you're going to serve.  Then that dude came in with like 12 other people, and some of them weren't even wearing shoes, and the restaurant sat them right across from us. It was gross, and they were all stinky and dirty.  Then dude starts talking about eating his body and drinking his blood...I almost lost it.  That's the last supper I'll ever have there, and I hope he dies a horrible death."

I haven't received an email from the NRA Legislative Action Committee yet.
This might be a bad sign. I usually have one of their emails in my mailbox every Monday morning about pending legislation. They may be mobilizing for war as we speak.

The limited research I have done on this does not look good.

Snopes says MOST of it is true.

http://www.snopes.com/politics/guns/blairholt.asp

Looks like the mental examination and gun storage inspection in private residencies were wrong but outside of that the email appears to be spot on.

Big Brother's New Target: Tracking Firearms
 http://www.nraila.org/Legislation/Federal/Read.aspx?id=4329
Friday, January 23, 2009

U.S. Representative Bobby Rush (D-Ill.) recently sponsored H.R. 45, also known as "Blair Holt's Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act."  The bill is, at its core and as its name implies, a licensing and registration scheme.

The measure calls for all handgun owners to submit to the federal government an application that shall include, among many other things:  a photo; an address; a thumbprint; a completed, written firearm safety test; private mental health records; and a fee.  And those are only some of the requirements to be licensed!

The bill would further require the attorney general to establish a database of every handgun sale, transfer, and owner's address in America.  Moreover, the bill would make it illegal to own or possess a "qualifying firearm" -- defined as "any handgun; or any semiautomatic firearm that can accept any detachable ammunition feeding device…" [emphasis added] without one of the proposed licenses.

Additionally, the bill would make it illegal to transfer ownership of a "qualifying firearm" to anyone who is not a licensed gun dealer or collector (with very few exceptions), and would require "qualifying firearm" owners to report all transfers to the attorney general's database. It would also be illegal for a licensed gun owner to fail to record a gun loss or theft within 72 hours, or fail to report a change of address within 60 days.  Further, if a minor obtains a firearm and injures someone with it, the owner of the firearm may face a multiple-year jail sentence.

H.R. 45 is essentially a reintroduction of H.R. 2666, which Rush introduced in 2007.  H.R. 2666 contained much of the same language as H.R. 45, and was co-sponsored by several well-known anti-gun legislators--including Barack Obama's chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel.  H.R. 45 currently has no co-sponsors.

Rest assured that NRA-ILA will continue to monitor this bill closely, and will keep you informed of any developments if they materialize.

Little by little these fuckers (read Democrats Socailist) are going to do all they can to take away our guns.  Did anyone read about the resolution that Montana passed in the state house and that NH is thinking about passing as well?  It basically said that if this passes that the Fed Gov't is in breach of contract that they entered with the US.  I will try to find something on it when I am not so hammered that I can use teh google's properly.

I just posted on this subject on another thread started by JohnDeere (apologies for duplication; here's the thread link: http://tigersx.net/forum/index.php?topic=5035.0) but as I mentioned there The ONE and his minions of godless socialist followers will do everything that they can to disarm us.  They'll use the appalling shootings in Alabama yesterday and in Deutschland today to redefine our Second Amendment rights.  They are already working on forcing registration and serializing of ammo (there was a recent topic on that subject on this board not long ago).  I'm not surprised that they are working on guns too at this point.

Here's a recent thread on the reinstatement of the Clinton Assault Weapons Ban:
http://tigersx.net/forum/index.php?topic=4954.0

As fast as they are moving on implementing other agenda items don't expect them to drag their feet with this issue.

No wonder gun dealers can't keep handguns and ammo in stock...

Here's just one recent article on that subject, all emphasis is my own, as usual, this is from a local paper in Indiana:

Quote
Prohibition fears spark increase in firearm and ammo purchases
One dealer says January sales double over last year

By A.J. Nelson anelson@reporter-times.com
March 8, 2009

At least one manufacturing sector of the American economy appears to be gaining health from an economic stimulus of a sorts.

Firearms and ammunition manufacturers appear to be falling behind a recent increased demand for a whole host of rifles, pistols, shotguns and ammunition, according to area gun dealers, after the election of President Barack Obama, who appears, according to his administration’s stated policy goals, ready to seek the renewal of the expired 1994 federal Assault Weapons Ban.

Reactions by gun buyers to the news seems mixed, with one of the Indianapolis metro area’s largest gun dealers saying his sales have nearly doubled over this time last year, to a long-time Martinsville gun dealer who says that, while there is a run on ammunition and reloading supplies, fears of a ban are based on hysteria.
...

The NRA has it's work really cut out for itself for the next few years!
