Auburn assistant coaches cash in as new staff
Posted by cgoldber January 29, 2009 16:57PM

Auburn's new coaching staff is cashing in with salaries that are almost universally higher than Tommy Tuberville's old staff.
Though no contract has been formally approved, the new coaches have agreed to contracts in principle. Head coach Gene Chizik checks in at $2 million a year, as previously reported. The assistants come in quite high. Don't forget, Auburn still needs to hire two defensive assistants, so we want know the final tally until Chizik completes his staff, now likely after Wednesday's recruiting national day.

Here's what we know:

Head coach Gene Chizik - $2 million
Defensive coordinator Ted Roof - $370,000
Offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn - $350,000
Receivers coach Trooper Taylor - $320,000
Defensive line coach Tracy Rocker - $300,000
Offensive line coach Jeff Grimes - $290,000
Running backs coach Curtis Luper - $260,000
Tight end and special teams coach Jay Boulware - $180,000

Auburn did not release the length of the contracts.

Tuberville's coaches who were not coordinators made between $180,000-$200,000 last season.

Tony Franklin's contract as offensive coordinator last season was $280,000, guaranteed through 2009. Defensive coordinator Paul Rhoads earned $305,000 annually.

To compare, Alabama defensive coordinator Kevin Steele made $360,000 annually and offensive coordinator Jim McElwain made $325,000 in 2008.

In 2007, Al Borges earned $325,000 as Auburn's offensive coordinator. Will Muschamp made $325,000 in 2007, and had agreed in principle to a $100,000 a year raise before he was hired by Texas.

How does Auburn's new pay scale compare to others? Tennessee just hired a new staff. Here is the Vols' salaries:

Lane Kiffin (Head Coach) $2,000,000

Monte Kiffin (Defensive Coordinator) $1,200,000*

Ed Orgeron (Recruiting Coordinator/Defensive Line) $650,000

Jim Chaney (Offensive Coordinator/Offensive Line) $380,000

Lance Thompson (Linebackers) $350,000

Eddie Gran (Running Backs/Special Teams) $185,000

James Cregg (Tight Ends/Tackles) $150,000

David Reaves (Quarterbacks) $150,000

Frank Wilson (Wide Receivers) $150,000

Willie Garza (Defensive Backs) $110,000

"Hey my friends are the ones that wanted to eat at that shitty hole in the wall that only served bread and wine.  What kind of brick and mud business model is that.  Stick to the cart if that's all you're going to serve.  Then that dude came in with like 12 other people, and some of them weren't even wearing shoes, and the restaurant sat them right across from us. It was gross, and they were all stinky and dirty.  Then dude starts talking about eating his body and drinking his blood...I almost lost it.  That's the last supper I'll ever have there, and I hope he dies a horrible death."

Why quibble over $150K here or there?  Life is short.

My doctor told me I needed to stop masturbating.  I asked him why, and he said, "because I'm trying to examine you."

Got to love a little nepotism, 1,200,000 for a fucking college DC.  Shit the man is old enough to be my great grand daddy?

And $650,000 to Orgeron? you've got to be kidding me.

And if Eddie Gran was such a great hire, how come he only gets $185,000?  Hell Bama pays their players more than that.

Am I the only one that sees the potential for some serious salary envy between the UT assistants?

I thought too late that I should have got my kids involved in golf at an early age. You can play golf your entire life basically. They all golf , but they are duffers like me.
If I had kids now, I'd place them on a coaching path if they showed any sort of inclination at all.

Don't you remember?  You crushed the pill with a rubber mallet into a powder and snorted it off of Thrilla's ass.  Then you walked around with a boner for an hour, asking everyone if they wanted to come 'play in my tent.'
