Auburn flag makes World Cup appearance
June, 24, 2014

It's been a good 12 months for the Auburn Tigers. The football team received a gift in the stoic form of Gus Malzahn, who then helped direct his Tigers to an SEC Western Division championship before taking Auburn back to the BCS promised land.

Auburn came up short in the national championship, but no one truly saw last season coming. (Don't even try it Auburn fans!).

But there's something else no one saw coming: An Auburn flag at the World Cup. Yes, Auburn's fan hood truly is international and on the country's biggest stage.

Who said SEC folk don't care about soccer?

In a sea of green-clad Mexico fans, one man proudly stood out with his blue-and-orange flag waving proudly through the thick, humid Brazilian air.

According to the Twitter account @WarBlogle, the man with the flag is Patrick Keim, who has no problem repping his school for the entire world to see.

That guy is truly living the life at the world's best sporting event. It's cool that he would pay respects to his school like that, but let's just hope that if he made it into the US-Portugal game on Sunday that he didn't have that flag with him. If so, then I guess we know why that game ended so eerily similar to one Auburn -- and Alabama -- fans know all too well ...

And to make it even better:

Incoming AU freshman Patrick Keim’s Auburn flag beat out best friend’s Bama flag for 15 minutes of World Cup fame

The most famous Auburn flag in the world (which is also likely the most hated Auburn flag in Mexico) earned its 15 minutes of fame during the broadcast of Mexico’s World Cup win over Croatia Monday thanks to a contest of sorts with an Alabama flag.

The Auburn flag, and its owner, 18-year-old Patrick Keim, won—they won big.

Keim, who will begin his freshman year at Auburn this fall, has been saving up to attend the 2014 World Cup since his freshman year at Mountain Brook High School, where he was a basketball standout. Keim’s oldest brother Bobby graduated from Auburn last year with a degree in engineering; another brother, Austin, is an Auburn senior majoring in Psychology.

Keim traveled to Brazil with two friends, including his best friend Reeves Duggan, a former soccer star at Indian Springs in Birmingham.

Duggan is an Alabama fan.

“His best friend Reeves and he took their respective flags to take to the game to see what would happen,” says Keim’s mother, Kelly Keim, a 1984 Auburn graduate.

Fans of at least three other college football teams—Michigan, Texas A&M, Washington State—also managed to score air time for their flags. Keim’s Auburn flag is the latest.

He tried to get it on TV at Friday’s match between Italy-Costa Rica match. When his phone didn’t blow up, he knew he’d failed?

So how did he do it Monday, but not Roll Tide Reeves? Fearlessness, commitment… and maybe being a little taller than Reeves, who sat behind him, Kelly says.

“Every time the ball was on their side of the field he would hold it up,” she says. “Every time during the wave, he held it up, and when they scored.”

According to Keim’s mother Kelly Keim, there’s probably a Bama flag behind there.

The Mexico fans at the game probably hated it more than the Alabama fans watching at home.

“He said the Mexicans behind him were so mad,” Kelly says. “That’s him—not afraid to show his spirit. He also said during the national anthem he held it up and screamed our national anthem.

“I’m just glad he made it out alive.”

"Hey my friends are the ones that wanted to eat at that shitty hole in the wall that only served bread and wine.  What kind of brick and mud business model is that.  Stick to the cart if that's all you're going to serve.  Then that dude came in with like 12 other people, and some of them weren't even wearing shoes, and the restaurant sat them right across from us. It was gross, and they were all stinky and dirty.  Then dude starts talking about eating his body and drinking his blood...I almost lost it.  That's the last supper I'll ever have there, and I hope he dies a horrible death."

A veteran is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America ' for an amount of 'up to and including my life.' That is Honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it.'

Is it rape if I signed a marriage certificate beforehand?

I married in.  Didn't have to check my net worth or anything!
