Jr high honors day
« on: May 16, 2014, 01:32:47 PM »
Had the joy of sitting through junior high honors day while a friend's daughter waited for a participation award.

Some observations:

If you are a parent and can affix the visitor sticker to your bare boob, you are underdressed.

If you brought 18 Mylar balloons, have the decency to sit on the top row so you don't block the view of an entire section of bleachers.

If you have to take a call, go outside.

If you are of a certain ethnic persuasion do not hoop, holler and clown for 45 seconds when your child's name is announced as it prevents other parents from hearing the names of their children.

If your child is asked to dress appropriately that does not mean a ratty tshirt.

5% of the students win 95% of the awards. Contrary to popular belief that doesn't motivate the 95

Id rather my kid be normal than one of the high achievers who all looked awkward and nervous.

Teachers have obvious agendas and it's clear when they love some kid for the wrong reason. Not sexual but just a little too "adoring" of some kid. Other kids see it too.

Teachers are horrible public speakers. Just give out the awards and shut up the gushing and babbling.

If you stink of cigarettes and cheese there is a seat next to me. Please take it. Oh wait, you just did. Barf.

And just to get it in early? :fu: TW

A veteran is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America ' for an amount of 'up to and including my life.' That is Honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it.'

Redskins cornerback DeAngelo Hall said, "Guys don't mind hitting Michael Vick in the open field, but when you see Cam, you have to think about how you're going to tackle him. He's like a big tight end coming at you."

The sticker on the boob was nothing anyone would want to see. It was horrifying.

I sat through this for my own kids.

I would not go back for anyone else.

Maybe grand kids one day.

Five statements of WISDOM
1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity, by legislating the wealth out of prosperity.
2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.
3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.
4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.
5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friends, is the beginning of the end of any nation.

As amusing as I find them sometimes, I deeply, genuinely and sincerely hope that your posts are mostly hyperbole, and that your life outside the X is not nearly as miserable as it seems to be.

That being said, I don't doubt one word of what you just shared.

Not sure how you get "misery" out of anything I post.  With one exception, I'm pretty happy 99% of the time.  My kids are smart, funny and talented. I got no health problems other than a crappy golf swing half the time and aging knees. Happy with my house, my cars (too many of them at the moment), my job, my neighborhood, my friends.  The last three employees I hired have been home runs which allows me to finally take time for me while they make me money. I'm taking my kids to Maine for two weeks, Cancun for a week and DC/Baltimore/Richmond/Williamsburg for about 10 days this summer.  Going to see KISS in Atlanta in July. It's good to be me.

I was doing 85 in a 45 the other day, passed a state trooper coming the other way and all he did was flash his lights at me.  What could be better?

Most of the time I'm  #winning #winning #winning.  I just observe things and comment for the most part.  I find that in real life I get a lot more info by just listening.  Obviously I don't listen here, what would be the point?  But when I'm with a bunch of Bama fans or LSU fans or Tennessee fans or whatever, I try to be invisible.  I want to hear them talk to each other and forget that I'm hearing it all.

Since I don't have major drama in my life, I fight the little battles.  Verizon deserved my fury, the bastards. I was calm and patient the first 45 times I talked to them, didn't unload until the very end (and got my way).   But I haven't thrown a tomato in anger in probably a dozen years.  I used to hurl them back onto the walls and windows of fast food restaurants just to prove a point, but that seems immature now that I'm finally 30(ish).

I'll give you a long list of people to call if you want. There's not a single one of them that would describe me as "miserable" in any way except one minor one.  And that's bout to be fixed.

If it makes any difference I can't think of anything I posted that was untrue.  I do have a way with words (I've been told) and I like to be colorful (not racist) in my relaying of the information, but I don't add stuff on.  I like to think that I have an interesting life. I probably don't and if I were a TV show I'd be cancelled after two episodes due to people dying of boredom. But I do have the occasional odd adventure.  As my best friend says very often... "that could only happen to you."   Example:  I had to go to physical therapy for four months and am looking at a possible surgery due to an injury I sustained to my knee. An injury sustained because I dreamed a rat was crawling up my pants leg, I tried to kick it out, threw myself out of bed and landed on my knee.  All true.  Who else but me?  And even if it DID happen to anybody else, who would tell that?
