The SEC: Where curvy diagonal lines are used to determine what's north and what's south.

Possibly with two new teams added, but otherwise, no.

The divisions do make geographical sense, actually if you look at it on a map. It's just more accurately the Northeast and the Southwest.

Even this map kind of overemphasizes the dip between Auburn and Florida. They could straighten the Southestern portion of that line a bit.

Think of the "East" and "West" as simple names, and forget "geographical sense" and you'll be much better off.  If you can't do that, then tell me what "geography" has to do with football, or dividing up the conference for the sake of competition.  If Slive changed the names to something like "Legends" and "Leaders" Divisions, would you worry at all about geography?   Fact is, neither aTm, or Mizzou are in the geographical "Southeast", but they're damn sure in the SEC now.

You know they don't have any magical teleportation devices right?

No one does. From the football team, down to the women's volleyball team.

Redskins cornerback DeAngelo Hall said, "Guys don't mind hitting Michael Vick in the open field, but when you see Cam, you have to think about how you're going to tackle him. He's like a big tight end coming at you."

So, I was thinking for a minute (just go ahead shut your smartass comments now) about the colorful little map above and the reasoning behind this alignment. I wondered if location to major Interstates had anything to do with it, for fan travel that is. It was close but even then Mizzou should be in the West. If you take I-75 up through GA and then I-24 through TN, you have a line that sort of mimics the map posted above but again the fake Tigers should be in the West by this reasoning. Follow the same line of thinking, striking along following
I-65 through AL, you have a more balanced alignment.

Lets pause 10 seconds for station identification.

Geographically, the thing to do would be move Auburn and Alabama to the East and Mizzou and Vandy to the West.  But that gives the West LSU, aTm, hogs, and 4 scrubs.  Not sure they want to go quite that unbalanced in competition.

I would say leave bama and Vandy be; move Auburn to the East and Mizzou to the West.

I think youve hit on something. The competitive balance has a big role in why teams are where they are.
