Coach belittle doesn't say anything about the disassociation, he speaks briefly about the C&D but that's it....in fact he stated that he wouldn't ban his players from going to Taleb Al-Betar's business (eventhough he is considered a Booster), because he doesn't understand what wrong he's done....BTW, uat Ath. Dept. Officials said that the letter was "hand delivered" on March 31st. 2011...Coach belittle's interview was yesterday on the 103.3 Dallas Radio station.

I'll say this one more time, if this was Auburn, I'd literally be pissed off at our Ath. Dept., our Compliance, our HC playing the "Coach Tressel card of hear no evil, see no evil" and I'd be wondering about our Compliance's 45min wrap up "nothing to see here" job on the Brent Calloway/Booster Darren Woodruff Case.

I really think I would have very serious doubts about the competency of our folks if this was playing out in orange and blue.

Even if there is absolutely nothing there you have given the impression that there is.  Why would you not get out in front of this?

MOBILE, Ala. -- So this is what it comes down to? Counting how many different suits Julio Jones wore while walking into Bryant-Denny Stadium?

There may be an awful lot of smoke in the T-Town Menswear situation, but so far there is no fire.

We've seen the Internet pictures of Alabama running back Trent Richardson signing a jersey inside the store and posing with owner Tom Albetar, pictures of the signed jerseys and helmets displayed inside the shop, of Jones striding toward Bryant-Denny in several different game-day suit combinations.

Lots of college athletes sign autographs. Lots of college football players wear suits to the stadium on game day. The T-Town Menswear photos don't look good, particularly after the Ohio State memorabilia-for-tattoos fiasco, but they are not proof of wrongdoing.

It took a federal investigation to find proof in the Ohio State case, and not just because Jim Tressel tried to keep it a secret.

If any player is found to have received benefits in exchange for his signature -- merchandise, cash or even undue discounts -- while still playing at Alabama, that's when it'll be time to sound the firehouse alarm.
       
NCAA Bylaw 15.5.2.1 prohibits student-athletes from receiving remuneration for or allowing their names or pictures to be used to promote a commercial enterprise.

Several ads for T-Town Menswear can still be found on YouTube featuring an emcee named Louie Linguini and former Crimson Tide players such as Greg McElroy, Javier Arenas and Terrence Cody. Since they appear to have been aired after the athletes exhausted their eligibility, however, their only violation is being criminally cheesy.

But did any current Alabama players know their signed jerseys and helmets would be displayed as promotional items or possibly sold?

The cease-and-desist letter Alabama sent to T-Town Menswear in December would seem to be in relation to another statute, NCAA Bylaw 12.5.2.2, which requires student-athletes or their institutions to take steps to stop the use of their names or pictures as promotional items when done without their knowledge.

An Alabama compliance office investigation found no wrongdoing on the part of any UA players in the matter but still didn't take any chances, disassociating Albetar in March.

Albetar, who was not deemed a booster but reportedly had sideline passes during recent seasons, is barred from having contact with or obtaining any memorabilia or autographs from UA players. No word on what he'll do now for advertising or interior decor.

In this case, UA felt strongly enough about its findings that it did not report them to the SEC or NCAA.
       
In a year when Alabama is expected to contend for the national title, it better be right.

Funny that when it was regarding Cam, where there was smoke, there was fire. That was their rule. I guess it doesn't apply now.
