Hmmm.
Here's my position.
1) Why do we give a fuck what Rashard Mendenhall (or Mel Gibson, Charlie Sheen, Peyton Manning, Ozzie Guillen, Paris Hilton, Susan Sarandon, Barbara Streisand, Toby Keith, Kanye West, George Clooney, Jessica Alba, Scarlett Johanssen, Ben Affleck, Whoopi Goldberg, Oprah Winfrey or any other empty-headed dillweed who lives in a fantasy world) thinks about this or any other issue? Just another dumbass walking the earth.
2) Why should he have to apologize? It's what he thinks. This whole concept of having to apologize when your thoughts aren't in line with the accepted opinion is asinine to me. He thinks what he thinks. I don't have to agree, but I'm sick to death of watching fake ass apologies. People should be able to make up their own mind about who to support, who to reward, who to punish based on what they actually think and say.
3) Group think, where only one position is accepted as valid is the death of progress. What good does it really do for people to spout platitudes when their true feelings are vastly different. Case in point: Race relations. I could fill a book with examples of people who say the right things in public, but when the doors are closed and they think they are among like-minded will turn into skinheads. And I'm talking about suits, people with money and influence.
Let the dumbass think what he wants. I'm glad he was willing to say it.
