Is former UNC assistant coach John Blake a 'pimp'? Saban snaps at the question
Don Kausler Jr., Tuscaloosa Bureau

TUSCALOOSA - Alabama Coach Nick Saban said rogue agents were "pimps" when he spoke in July at SEC Media Days about Crimson Tide star defensive end Marcell Dareus attending an agent-related party in May in Miami.

Now the word has come out that then-North Carolina assistant coach John Blake called Dareus this summer to recommend an agent.

Saban did not seem interested in stirring the water this time, and he snapped when asked if he is not going to call Blake a pimp.

"First of all, I don't know anything about this," Saban said Monday of a story that Yahoo! Sports reported late Sunday night.

"Secondly, to me, it's water that's been under the bridge for several months now. It's somewhere down in the Gulf of Mexico now. I really don't have much care about talking about that.

"I have a tremendous amount of respect for the honesty, integrity and professionalism of what we do as coaches, and if somebody does something to violate that, everybody can make their judgment as to what that is."

A follow-up question noted that Saban made a big deal about the issue of rogue agents.

"Yeah, the agents," he said. "I'm not going to comment on coaches that do things that they have been accused of doing. I don't really know anything about this. I haven't thought about it. It's not important to me. I'm worried about South Carolina. So if you want to talk about that, we'll talk about that. But I'm not really going to talk about this anymore."

John Blake is not a pimp?

"Is that South Carolina?" Saban said. "I guess I must stutter. Did I stutter? I'm not very clear on how I articulate. Maybe I need to go back to West Virginia and get some more hillbilly slang and maybe everybody can understand me a little better."

An Alabama investigation revealed that Dareus made two May trips to Miami. For violations of NCAA preferential treatment and agent benefits rules, he was suspended for the first two games of the season and had to pay $1,787.17 of benefits to a charity of his choice.

The NCAA student-athlete reinstatement staff reduced the suspension from a potential four games to two because of mitigating circumstances in the case, an NCAA news release said at the time. The Yahoo! Sports story said Dareus told NCAA investigators that Blake was pushing the player to sign eventually with Gary Wichard.

The NCAA and the North Carolina Secretary of State office are investigating Blake and Wichard to determine how much agent tampering there has been at a few college football programs, including North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida.

North Carolina defensive lineman Marvin Austin is a central figure in the investigation. When he made a recruiting visit to North Carolina, Dareus met Austin and stayed in touch. Blake was the UNC assistant coach who recruited Dareus when he was a star at Birmingham's Huffman High School.

"Hey my friends are the ones that wanted to eat at that shitty hole in the wall that only served bread and wine.  What kind of brick and mud business model is that.  Stick to the cart if that's all you're going to serve.  Then that dude came in with like 12 other people, and some of them weren't even wearing shoes, and the restaurant sat them right across from us. It was gross, and they were all stinky and dirty.  Then dude starts talking about eating his body and drinking his blood...I almost lost it.  That's the last supper I'll ever have there, and I hope he dies a horrible death."

i say both - but since both are equally stupid inbreds, I doubt they notice.  Hell, he could openly and deliberately call bammer fans a bunch of sister fucking inbred cousin humpers and they would just grin and agree with him... as long as he is winning.

The crimson hoard, and not a one of them has either gotten it, or said anything about it...out of fear I suppose.

You know, part of me understands this reaction.  You've got the #1 team going on the road to face one of your tougher tests of the year.  I would imagine the last thing you want is the distraction of a shit-storm in the media after you call a colleague a pimp.  (Would have been funny as hell though)

On the other hand, he was the one who created his own shit-storm during media days.  Absolutely acceptable to push him on the issue and Lord Saybinz has no bidnezz reacting with his ass on his shoulders.  Just keep your cool and say, "Look, I know where you want me to go with all that but this is game week and....." Instead, they get, "I am Lord Saybinz , beeches.  Kneel before me and gaze at the awesomeness of my gerbil sized cock."

I took it as a slight on the idiot reporter who apparently can't comprehend plain english.  And I thought it was much worse in print.  Once I saw the video, I didn't see a coach snapping.  Throwing shit is snapping.  Knocking over the podium is snapping.  Screaming and calling himself a man is snapping.  He just gave a smartass answer to a stupid question.

Of course, I fit in that crowd of people who still remember watching the pressers of Shula looking like a deer after getting our asses handed to us.  So Saban could probably choke a reporter and I wouldn't be offended.

Nothing could be more offensive than having to watch that clusterfuck of a coaching staff every Saturday.

I believe it was Don Kausler Jr., the same idiot who wrote the article in the "Sinners vs. Saints" thread. Kausler provoked Saban the same way nearly any reporter who gets a smartass answer provokes him; by asking a question over and over that Saban has already said he isn't going to comment on.

What do you mean by "one of his own?"  If you're talking about Dareus, I believe you're wrong.  If you mean the profession of coaches, then yeah, I agree with your assessment of why he didn't want to talk about it.

"So I want everybody to think here for a second, how much does this game mean to you? 'Cause if it means something to you, you can't stand still. You understand? You play fast! You play strong! You go out there and dominate the man you're playing against, and you make his ass quit! That's our trademark! That's our M.O.... as a team! That's what people know us as!" ~ Nick Saban
