I ran the veer in high school. Yes, the veer. Our high school here in Woodstock, GA has been running it for about 4 years now ans has made the playoffs every year. Not a lot of people see it any more and it is different to defend, but I feel it it is going to reach the next level, we have to have another offense to go with it. So as high schools get a little more complicated, I think each will have to have two separate offensive formations in order to be successful. OR they can get lucky and get an abundance of talent. My old HS (Prattville) moved to the spread and have been very successful with it. But I have to say that most of their success has come from excellent defense.
Whatever you run, you need to have the personnel to do it. A fancy offense is only as good as the talent.
