Brees, Saban, Tebow, Kiffin, Favre, etc.

Caught some of the Scott Van Pelt radio show and they were talking about an interesting "what if".

When Saban was still with the Dolphins, he was really high on acquiring Drew Brees.  Brees was coming off shoulder surgery and the Dolphins, against Saban's wishes, went another direction (Joey Harrington, Duante Culpepper) in listening to the team doctors as opposed to Saban.  A lot of people say that's when Saban really became disenchanted with the NFL and how it works (lack of control).

So they were throwing out the what-if of what might have been had Brees gone to Miami.  Likely, Saban would have stayed, and may, in fact, still be the coach of the Dolphins.

Based on that, there's a really good chance Tebow would have just played Texas for his 3rd national championship.  Then the question came, "who would be coaching Alabama?"...."Kiffin".....followed by laughter.  Throw in that it would also likely mean Favre was in the Super Bowl this weekend, and it's a big chain reaction with all sorts of possibilities.

I thought it was all a very interesting scenario of "what if".

Then the question came, "who would be coaching Alabama?"...."Kiffin".....followed by laughter.

Kiffin was hired by the Oakland Raiders in 2007 as the head coach, and was then fired in 2008.  Shula left Alabama in 2006, and Saban stepped in after him.  It would be very unlikely for Kiffin to be coaching at Alabama, unless the coach that Alabama would have hired in 2007 only stuck around for a year.

Granted, this wouldn't be impossible; afterall, look at Mike Price.  Nonetheless, it would be highly unlikely that Kiffin would have coached for Alabama, given the time that he was released from the Raiders and the time that Saban took over being a one year difference.
