I love my son and he is one helluva soldier(4.5 years in and up for E6), but currency of any kind is a complete mystery to him. If that little card connected to your account actually works, you must still have money.  I mean if you didn't, wouldn't an automated hand come from whatever device you stuck it in and slap the shit out of you and say, "No. no more money"?

And if you venture to Ft. Campbell, KY, where he is stationed, and frequent the pawn shops, you can find all sorts of almost new items. So I guess it is not just him.

Maybe the Army needs a mandatory course on how to manage money. Some of the stories you hear are almost unreal. One of the new guys under him needed help getting a loan. Why? You ask. Because he doesn't have a car or a DL, and the apartment he and his new wife just rented was 30 miles from base and he needed money for a taxi every day.

So as I look at the overall picture, it could be worse.

And don't get me started on people who sell stuff to these uneducated(in the ways of money) soldiers at a higher cost than they should. Some of the car salesmen need their balls cut off for what they do to these guys.

But as I have stated, want a good deal on barely used electronics, a military town is a good bet.

I agree 100%.

If that's the Satellite series then we got the same one.  It has the webcam built in, right?  Pretty sweet machine.

Uh, yeah. Let's keep that camera off, OK. I don't really care to see your beanbag chair nor what brand of Cheetos you like.

3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.
4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.

I agree, my last duty station was with the 101st. Ft. Campbell, ky, between the pawn shops, tit places (if they are still there), will drain a young soldier of his money. I lost count the number of times I had to loan my guys money to get through the end of the month. They do (or did) have clasess on money management-but it was for mostly young married folks. The thing that got to me more than anything with young families, was since it was free to have kids in the military, Kids must be free then.

A veteran is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America ' for an amount of 'up to and including my life.' That is Honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it.'

Now you didn't have to go this far.  The good ones provide a valued service.

"Hey my friends are the ones that wanted to eat at that shitty hole in the wall that only served bread and wine.  What kind of brick and mud business model is that.  Stick to the cart if that's all you're going to serve.  Then that dude came in with like 12 other people, and some of them weren't even wearing shoes, and the restaurant sat them right across from us. It was gross, and they were all stinky and dirty.  Then dude starts talking about eating his body and drinking his blood...I almost lost it.  That's the last supper I'll ever have there, and I hope he dies a horrible death."

As I do too, since I am retired military. I just thought it was someone using words about our current men and women in uniform that I did not agree with.

Being banned from playing Halo by your mom is not "retired military"

True, but receiving two checks, once a month, that hopefully comes directly from your tax dollars does.

Makes me  :)

Ethel Lee Jones gets two checks a month that come from my paycheck too.  She had to quit playing Halo when her Playstation was repossessed.

Just fucking with you.  I play NCAA 2009.  That makes me an expert on college football, you know.

You remember I said this on another board, right before I told someone to kiss my ass and got banned.
