Jive Turkey.

Had to say it...

Seriously, wtf.

This is the only other info I can find on this...

Quote
UPDATE 1: A Turkish woman called into The Schnitt Show and she says that this is a spoof.

The woman will call back with a translation of the video.

UPDATE 2: I am listening to The Schnitt Show, and a man named Jim is now translating!

(Rough) Translation: Welcome, Mr. Obama. You took our hearts with your hospitality. We appreciate your kindness. We will do whatever America asks of us, as friends. Now, we ask the same of you.

The reason why the announcer is wearing black face paint is because he wants to show respect to President Obama. This is a real anchorman, and he is just trying to give a bit of a comedy act.

More translation to come…

UPDATE 3: More Translation: We inquire that you give us what we give to you. By all means, if someone translates this and I call you “black, Arab, or negro”, it does not mean I am disrespecting you. I mean no harm. We respect you.

That is what the video translates from Turkish to American English.

Funny stuff.

UPDATE 4: More on the black face conundrum:

The anchorman is also trying to show shame for what his country has done, so that is why his face is painted in black. The anchorman is saying that no politicians will directly tell the truth to President Obama while in Turkey. The anchorman says that Muslim terrorists attack inside Turkey, but the country does not renounce Islamic terrorism.

Bear in mind that blackface does not have the same implications/connotations in other countries as it does here in the USA.

I'm laughing with Tarheel, though...

Florence, AL is infested with Turks. UNA has recruited Turkey heavily. Now they have a thriving Turkish population of 200+ on campus. Having had my fair share of encounters with them....they are 'dogs'....on par with your average Iraqi or Kuwaiti. I'm not surprised by the 'black face' thing at all if it is meant to be insulting.

Now that I think about it I laughed guffawed at Robert Downey, Jr. doing black-face in "Tropic Thunder" too.

I like the new "Stewart Smalley" avatar, JohnDeere; well-timed for political humor as usual based on the mess going on in Minnesota...but I don't want to venture off-topic.

Interesting insight on the Turks in Alabama.

Very true...as soon as you stepped foot into the Mardi Gras I was amazed at the Nubians that flocked to your chair...and even more amazed at how receptive you were to them.
